Yeah, whatever happened to that new A.F. dress uniform that came out in the mid-Nineties? The Pan Am uniform? Did that ever make it into service?

That thing was being phased in when I began my enlistment. I was Mr. Cutting Edge because I dropped the cash and bought one!

In basic training, the new rule was all BDUs had to have the "Aircrew Style Name Patch" on them instead of the name tapes...so that's what we got issued. Sure enough, about a year later they started phasing BACK the nametapes on BDUs. The mid 1990's kept kept the base uniform tailor ladies busy.

And of course, when you wore the medical hospital white uniform, you had to wear the camo BDU hat with it! I guess that was the regulation, but we sure looked like tools.

I was an AF medic, but I spent a good part of my enlistment working with Army guys in an Army trauma center. Some of them took their shots at AF guys (all in good fun), but when you talk to them one-on-one, they all admit that if they had to do it all over, they would have gone AF.

There is an old joke about the Navy enlisted seaman ranks dress uniforms. I forgot the punch line, but the question had to do with "why do sailor's uniforms have all those buttons on the front of their pants"? I can't recall the punch line.

Anybody?
