Age "expemtion" for retiring pilots??

I have now heard of 6 different cases where retiring pilots are getting an expemtion from the FAA as they go out. They are telling their crews that, although the age hasn't changed yet, they will be able to return to the senority list when and if the rule does change.

WTF?

Anybody heard of this? What is this supposed FAA-issued exemption?
