APA INFORMATION HOTLINE
This is Captain Ralph Hunter, APA President, with the APA Information Hotline for Tuesday, April 26.
AGE 60 LEGISLATIVE ALERT: As many of you are aware, U.S. Representative James Gibbons (R-NV-2), a retired Delta Air Lines pilot, recently introduced House Resolution (H.R.) 65, a bill to amend the age restrictions for pilots. According to our Washington, D.C.-based government relations advisors, Representative Gibbons has stated that he 'hasn't heard from many pilots who oppose raising the retirement age' and plans to proceed with his legislation. Our advisors further report that Representative Gibbons intends to attach his legislation to whatever Social Security reform bill Congress produces.
We need all pilots who oppose changing the Age 60 Rule to contact Representative Gibbons to express your views. Click on the "Legislative Alerts" tab at the upper right on the Member's Home Page of the APA Web Site to review pertinent materials regarding Age 60. The red box labeled "Legislative Alerts" contains 1) An overview of APA's position concerning the Age 60 Rule, 2) the text of H.R. 65, 3) sample talking points, and 4) a sample letter for your use. Please review these materials and be sure to click on the links labeled "H.R. 65" for 2), 3) and 4). Remember, you must log onto the Member's Home Page to access the "Legislative Alerts" section.
You can reach Representative Gibbons via telephone at 202-225-6155 and via fax at 202-225-5679. You can send him an e-mail via the following address: [email protected]
We recommend you focus your efforts on making telephone and fax contacts, as it is difficult to ensure that e-mail messages from non-constituents to specific lawmakers are always received.
