After the UPS Interview

I just had my interview late last week at UPS. They said it takes 4-5 weeks before you hear something. Anyone who has had the interview, how long after did you hear something? And how?

When I interviewed, I was offered the job and a class date on the spot. Of course that was a few years ago, but I've heard that some the recent interviewees have also been hired and given class dates on the spot. I don't really know what to make of them telling you 4-5 weeks before you hear something. That seems like an awfully long time for them to make up their mind. Im hearing if they are interested you get a call in about a week or something in the mail. If not interested, you will get a "no-thanks--good luck" letter in a week or so.

I dont know if this is exacally the way its working but what I heard. Wish I knew more.

Two Friends that interviewed in the last month offered the job on the spot and asked to stay the next day at the UPS expense.

The only thing that is for certain is this, IF they do not like you, you will know within a week or so with a "thanks but were not interested" letter..

Its not always so cut and dry with everything else. There are alot of other factors that can play into the the dynamics of getting hired and into a newhire class. IE: Say that they really like you and dont want to turn you down because of what ever reason (LOR from a buddy or great interview, what ever...) but for some reason they just cannot justify getting you into class right away (compitition too strong, lower than competitive Flight time, what ever...) You might sit and wait for a while before you hear anything... Even when you do hear something, it might be a letter telling you that you are in the pool. (YES, In case anyone is wondering, we do have a new pool, I know no other details about the pool)

If you dont get a class date right away, dont sweat it... As long as you dont get a letter of rejection, your still in the running. Sit on your hands and get your LOR guys to do some investigation for you... Good luck and stay with it...

All I read is that people are getting the job on the spot and all of them seem to be military. One of my LORs, told me that they will not decide on anything in till they get your background check done and that takes about a week. My LOR called the office to ask what the deal is with when and how you get the notice. What kind of God do you have to be to get it on the spot? Just egaer to get this job, been waiting a very long time just for the interview.

For what its worth, I interviewed on 11/11 and got a letter dated 11/29 saying "Congratulations...you're in the pool." I guess its better than getting a thanks-but-no-thanks letter. I hope to hear from them again someday.

For me, I wasn't given a contingent offer on the spot and received the letter two weeks later of thanks but no thanks. On the day I interviewed, it was six of us with only one getting an offer. He start class last week. If not hired, you can retry in six months which is the lowest retry time of any major airline.

Bud of mine was talking to system CP last week, he said that UPS should be hiring throughout 2005 with around 300 total newhires.

I can't imagine he'd quote a number like that but who knows. All the people i've talked to have left good impressions but aren't willing to say anything other than what has been given to the press.
No doubt everyone is happy to see newhires and potential pilots in and out everyday now.

Dude, they tell lots of people (with a handshake) we'd like to offer you a position, but, it doesn't mean anything until you get to the physical and get the results from the physical. My bud interviewed about 2 weeks ago and was asked to stay till the next day so he could take the physical. Pending the results of the physical, he'll be offered a classdate. That's the way it goes down. If they don't ask you to stay for the physical, you're chances of being put in the pool are increased of not being offered the job at all--even if they gave you the handshake. Best of luck. Physical

What does the physical entail?

The physical entails the standard crap, nothing comsmic. They do blookwork and take a urine sample (presumablely to test for protein/drugs.) Its just one notch up from the standard class 1 physical. Results take no more than 10 days. Mine were back in 5 or 6. Good luck.
