If you have been keeping up with the company memo's put out on the colgan air crew website you know that management is telling us that if we were to unionize things would change. We would not be able to negotiate anything with management and everything would now have to go through a union.

I do believe that there are valid points to the argument that things are not that bad at colgan and we don't want a union to come in here and screw it up. There are a lot of very good things about this company that we have all heard before.

MY question is what happens after the "foreseeable future" of the Colgan family staying in management? We have NO indication of when or if a change in management would happen. But if it did, and it might, WHAT would the new dynamic be? We have to face the fact that the Colgans are not completely in the drivers seat anymore.

We would probably have a bunch of highly trained money counters whose sole goal in life is to boost the stock price, get their bonuses and buy yachts. It would become very impersonal and the "open lines" of communication would probably completely dissappear.

What protections would we have from the new management coming in and imposing anything they want on us to make us more productive and cut their operating costs? Especially if in a year or two there is another industry downturn and pilots become a dime a dozen commodity again.

Are you blind to the outside world? what is good about colgan except for the fast upgrade? take a moment and please just name one thing for me. pay sucks, schedules suck, benefits suck, A/C suck, bases suck, and the future sucks! Please, just hush up and sign the card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:uzi:

I am going to slaughter my neighbors dogs.... it sounds like a feaking barking circus every day!!!!! Argggggg.

Watch CNN to see if I actually do it!

plenty of good things. i fyou hate it, you are not a good match and should go work somewhere else.

some of us like the fact that we have never sat reserve. have logged a huge amount of turbine 121 time. get home almost every night.

my goals are to get to a major. to do that i must have 121 time. i have been able to log a lot of it much faster than ALL of my friends that went to other carriers.

things could get better here but don't say there isn't anything good about the place. I know a bunch of people that left colgan for a major after only 2-3 years at a regional. some guys were here for less than two years. on the back end of your career that means a lot.

that is not a bad record.

oh yeah and FI, love the new digs

I agree except that not all the schedules suck. Some people have sweet deal with schedule. It depends on the base. In the time I was at CJC I averaged 900 hours a year of flying from day one with no reserve. That amount of flying gave me about 15 off a month. That doesnt suck. I was one of the lucky ones. Any airline you go to there are going to be those who have to take the crappy schedules. As far as PCL taking over and making changes, what can they change? CJC is already run on a shoe string budget with a skeleton staff. It makes money for the size of the company. PCL needs that cash to start the 900 operation so it may be awhile before changes are made. Most of you wont be around by the time the contract is put through and that contract doesnt guarantee anything will change for the better. 2 years to get contract through and then years for any grievances to be settled. Why would you put forth so much energy for so little return?

1. some of us like the fact that we have never sat reserve.

2. get home almost every night.

Supaah, no hard feelings but, doesn't scheduling build reserve days intoa line holder's schedule. I know for a fact that it has been done before!

you only get home every night if you live in one of the many beutiful bases they have to offer! If you are a commuter, then there are'nt too many flights in and out of these bases except your very own flights which run few and far between!

Most importantly, what has the great negotiating power that you currently have now gotten you?????? nothing! Sign the cards!

And lastly, I never said that colgan would'nt get you on at a major... maybe I was'nt clear enough but I said it is only good for the quick upgrade!
which in turn gets you to the majors! your life may be miserable while your there but you'll be qualified for a major in 2-3 years (only if they "select" you to upgrade) he, he! :puke:

like i said. it really isn't a good fit for everyone. I feel for the guys that commute. most of our bases make for a horrendous commute. But my point was that for some of us who look at colgan as a means to and end and as a training ground it can work out pretty good.

The thought that scares me is what happens when the next recession hits and you get stuck at Colgan with pinnacle appointed management. then what?

and no I have sat maybe a grand total of less than 10 days of total reserve time since coming here. So though it can happen, it really hardly ever does.

oh and as for selection, i can't think of one person that i know that didn't get the upgrade.

Prop! Put down the beer and step away from the computer. Why don't you go take a few dogs out for a drag down the interstate? What's that? You want to take your beer? And computer? No... that's out of the question. The computer stays on the desk.

See? If more people would listen to me, we wouldn't have this situation. Friends don't let friends fly for Colgan.

Seriously though, the A/C aren't that bad, bases don't suck (anything is better than EWR), and signing the card isn't going to fix it. Kick the dog and beat the wife, but don't take it out on ALPA.

What about Captain Ben or the country american idle and everyone else that switched over to RAH????????????????:puke:

Cards

The fact is that management will change in the future. Probably sooner rather than later. The only way we can be protected, no matter how long you are at Colgan, is thru a strong, international pilot's union. ALPA. Sign the cards and let's vote!

Guess who's first to go.......

Very Very interesting... It's nice to see mangement does care about their pilots.

"We would not be able to negotiate anything with management and everything would now have to go through a union."

I was there 3 years and never saw anyone negotiate anything with management. Not that I remember??

And to hijack the thread, one of the best conference calls was in 2003 when the assistant chief pilot talked about the expense form: "You can only put valid company things on that form for reimbursement. (in a stern voice)-Beach Pass is not one of them."

That was awesome, some dude tried to get reimbursed for a beach pass! Anyone know who tried that??

Ask yourself this question, "why doesn't management want a union."

I think it's simple. Why would they want to negotiate with you instead of imposing whatever pay and workrules they desire (and that's not even half of what ALPA has been doing for us all since inception). Any smart businessman doesn't want a union, but any smart worker should.

First, just stop the flame. Second, when you don't show up for work because you want to go sing, you won't make it to upgrade. Why would we want a captain that no call no shows for a trip? (He did that 3 or more times...) I've talked to 3 or 4 other guys that went to Republic and they really don't hold any hard feelings. CJC just didn't fit what they were looking for. It fits me. Home based, lots of time, 15 days off, and I've never been on reserve from day one. Yeah, that sucks.

I bet you don't even work for CJC, do you?.?.?

Go flame another thread.
