Hi everyone,
I am 27 and a few months now. I got my instrument rating 3 months ago and lost my job. Got a new job, and ready to restart training again. Commercial single then multi. I want to fly some multi before I get my cfis, with my job I can afford it, with cfi job I won't :( . I’ll be an happy cfi with already the min multi time required for regional.
My problem is since i lost my job and stop training at my local fbo, i have been counting the days i lost between now and a future job in a regional. It’s pretty depressive. I am wondering everyday if i can still make it to the majors. I feel like i am on the race and i have to do everything fast. I am not taking any loans. That means i pay up front for all my training, flying two times a week.

I love flying, and i want to make it.
Any words on that?
thank you

Three words............ "Air National Guard."

You're still young enough to be considered for service as a military aviator (at least in the USAF). Apply to as many Guard/Reserve units as you can. Take the first that offers you the job. This will be the #1 way to get ahead again and not pay a dime.

I've been sorta busy lately, so I might not be able to help you with the process, but others here should be able to. Especially on the military forum.

Other than that, I dunno what to tell ya besides either instructing, or getting your commercial liscense and towing banners for a year or so....

Good luck.....

Look at the Army

Look at the Army flt program, you are still young enough. You will get fantastic training, make great money, compared to a regional, and have some great stufffor your resume.

Faster and better training

If you consider that few majors are hiring and several more have furloughees to recall before they starting hiring, flying for the majors may not be a realistic goal anymore. A good regional or corporate job may be more realistic and practical.

Military is a never a bad training suggestion, if one can qualify. Maybe you should revisit the loan idea as well. Many schools can help secure loans. At least you can train faster, better and potentially cheaper. I know; when I learned how to fly I was paying out-of-pocket. Until I earned my multi and MEI I was not on a career path, so speed did not matter at that time. But I know that not training consistently cost me more in terms of money and consistent learning.

Good luck with your plans.

Military is out of question for me for multiple reasons.
I heard many pilotes are happier flying corporate than those in majors.
Bobysand, i thought about a loan but, i want to start the job debt free.
Its takes longer, training is longer ( i fly less). Upside i have no credit, downside i stress because things are not moving as fast as i wish i could afford too.
30 and in a regional is my goal, then move on. I hope it is realistic.
Thanks pilots for answers

You have Lot's of options, more and more airlines are hiring, YES some are'nt but that's life.

There are more and more small jobs opening up and you have all the changes in the world.
Ok im from Europe but do you know what the average age in europe is to become a pilot. 32 years old.
Alot of people dont start their training before they get older, got some money and know what they really want to do.
Many compagnies rather want a guy thats 25 or 30 then one thats 19-20 years old.
Find the right place to do your training, I my self are done with my Instrument, got 270 hours and are going for my Commercial/multi/instructor.
There are alot of money to earn by searching for the right shool.
Follow you dream and NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!!
Take a look at www.aviationpilots.com They have new job postings every day, and that tells me that more and more are hiring, you are also able to search for schools in ther too.

A flight school (loans), military, or haired legged sugar momma sounds like the only way for you to go. My opinion (worth less that .00002) is the loans. If you want to be debt free and in the communters in 3 yrs. Your in a pipe dream. Think of the cash you need to get the multi-time alone. Good luck though.
