Question for Toro

Single guys at my current station have a DEROS (when they leave) of two years while married guys are three years and both have the option of extending if they desire.

How long can somebody extend for? Is that for all overseas long tours or USAFE only?

The standard I've seen is a year extension for aircrew, but I know of enlisted guys who have indefinite extensions. RAF Lakenheath is the only overseas base I've been at, so I don't know if that's a USAFE thing or overseas in general.

I know of quite a few dudes who extended in the Pacific theater as well.

I think it boils down to a "supply vs demand" thing. If there are a ton of guys itchin' to get there, they probably will be less likely to extend people. However, I'm sure a commander can always get his/her favorites extended at anytime.
