The Guy riding along was a starchecker going home to BUF on this 6 off. He was a great guy and will be missed by those of us that knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with the Castle pilot, the AirNet pilot and their families. Godspeed.

I hope The Duke had a nice cold beer waiting for both of them when they got to the other side.

*hat off*

I did not know the Castle Pilot but i did know the starchecker Mike. A true loss

R.I.P.

do you have Mike's last name? If you want you can pm me. Have several old students that went to AirNet, just hoping it wasn't one of them . Thank you

the Starchecker was Mike Bratek, a lear capt. a great guy and a friend to all.

RIP

I dont know the pilot but lets not forget him

RIP

Death is always depressing, but it is especially sad when you know the person. It has been several years since I spoke to Mike. He was my roommate in initial training at Airnet. We werent friends, just the usual coworker relationship, nevertheless he was a great guy to drink a beer with. He had some great stories both about flying and as well as life outside of aviation. Those stories are what I will remember.

RIP Mike.

I am not in anyway trying to be disrespectful to the fallen Caravan pilot by only talking about Mike. My thoughts and prayers are with him as with Mike.

I definitely recognize the name but unfortunately can't put a face to it. I'm sure I'd recognize him if I saw him. Here I am, a year and 3 months removed from the company and barely knew the guy but it still stings.

All you freight dawgs, please be careful out there this winter!

I'll raise a beer to Mike and to James, blue skies and tailwinds.

I looked out my window yesterday morning and my first thought was "I'm glad I'm not flying today." The roads were slick and visibility was crap.

I know a lot of guys over at AirNet. My thoughts go out to the pilots, their families, and everyone who knew them.

cleared unrestricted climb for two sleepless knights.

i came out of dayton yesterday and it was a mess. snowing, freezing fog, poor vis. be safe out there guys.

I know that Airnet is working on a fund for mike but I don’t know when it will be set up. Again my thoughts are with the families and friends of both pilots.

Wrong thread probably, but I hope you were kidding.

How much ice could anyone get a mile from the airport?

My thoughts go out to those who are grieving this.

I hope you're kidding!!

How many airplanes have gone down in active snowfall. Some airplanes are more saceptable to wing contamination then others, ie. the Van.
Maybe I'm not getting the whole story. I assumed that it was snowing based on the photo's.

No one knows what happened here, and I am not guessing. Could be anything.

That being said, there is a big difference in catching ice enroute and a contaminated a/c before take off. A very large portion of the 208 departure accidents have happened due to a contaminated or overloaded, or both a/c. Any aircraft that is contaminated before take off is at risk, not just the 208.

To lump this in a "208 and icing" scenario is not fair. To lump this any scenario is not fair.

Im not trying to get on anyone here but a friend just died and if you would like to play armchair QB then start another thread.

RIP MIKE

Update

FYI
Fuel was tested and checked out OK
The airplane was deiced 4 Min prior to T.O with 150 Gal of type 1

I lost a buddy about 2yrs ago while hauling freight. It's a terrible feeling when you get the call, but nothing compared to what the families go thru. My thoughts and prayers go out to them. For our fallen brothers who have taken their final flight west, godspeed, and may you always have a tailwind and clear skies. RIP

this is very similar to an accident in alaska in 2001 where a caravan was de-iced and then took off and crashed a mile from the runway.
the one in alaska reached 600 feet agl and then stalled.
