Confirmed in class today by an E-board member. Basically they were offered the option of retiring a few months early with no penalty and medical benefits paid until original retirement date.

Really?!? anybody have any more details? Not flying this week.

Yep, my bet is furloughs are coming!! How many is anyones guess, but i would think most of the PFE's and close to 50 pilots.

Not good!

so you going to tell us who you're with? ABX or not?

Hey Bitter if you know so much why don't you put you money where you mouth is with your call that all PFE's and at least 50 pilots will be furloughed. You need to put up or shut up.

At least ABX is a seperate, publicly traded company. They have the ability to expand their business outside DHL. The way things are looking with DHL right now, they won't be in the US market in a few years. Customer service is the concept they have a hard time grasping.

18 captains?

I heard that ABX has asked for 18 captains to take early retirement? Why is that? Could that be to mitigate the need to furlough?

Actually, I have heard of only 7 Captains who were offered the early out deal. Interesting enough they are spread out on all three a/c types. They are all scheduled to retire by the end of the year anyway. The company has offered them medical benefits till their retirement date but they want them out June 1st.

Public or Private is irrelevant to expanding non-DHL business, but that flying could never grow to that extent anyway.

DHL pulling out of the US is not an option for them. Something like 60-65% of the world's express business is to or from the US, DHL is HUGE worldwide and they know they NEED the US. You're right though, they need to keep up with the learning curve; Dr. Zumwinkel said after the merger that they had underestimated the expectations of the American customer. That needs to change!
