Anyone at ABX have any updates on hiring forecast lately? I've heard some guys have heard the Chief Pilot talking about possible hiring this year. Just wondering if there has been anything new lately.

Thanks

Official answer from the Chiefs is NO hiring and NO resumes being accepted at this time by Human Resources.

However, the Chiefs did say that their office was accepting WALKED IN resumes only at this time in anticipation of hiring again someday. No clues as to when that will be though. Sure hope it's this year.

I just went thru recurrent, and the chief pilot comes in for a talk. Here's the official word on hiring. "Nothing official YET."

If you just go thru the website or call HR, they won't accept your resume. But the chief pilots ARE asking for resumes from current pilots. So if you know an ABX pilot, give him your resume.

When hiring does start (feels like later this year to me), they'll work through those resumes FIRST, then work the resumes from HR after that.

Is ABX big on having a 4-year degree?

Website says its preferred.

I'd get my resume in either way; this is (IMO) one of the best jobs out there, along with FDX/UPS.

unless you've got a thing about flying freight. (If that's the case, you just haven't been paying attention)

Kinda hard to hire when they still have guys on furlough.

well, duh. Those on furlough get called back first. Figured most here would know that already. Down to single digits left on furlough, I think.

Last time I looked, there are 16 still on furlough but 11 of them have already bypassed recall so I wouldn't bet on many, if any, of those 11 returning. The remaining five have never been recalled. Those five, FWIW, were hired on 2/21/2001 so they just got their 5yr pins, or would have if they hadn't been furloughed.

I'd guess that the first "new-hire" class will clear out the remaining furloughees who want to come back.

I heard that once ABX is merged into Astar that there will be furloughs and that they will come from the ABX side of the house. This came from someone on the management side of DHL.
Is either or both Astar or ABX unionized? If so, I don't know how she could have that info?
