Hear, hear!

How bout some 30 year old F/As to go with the Douglas. Am I asking too much?

.........that would be F/As that have been flying 30 years if it's a Douglas!!!!

"come on sonny, I wanna go out tonight!"

and the A320 cockpit is by far more comfortable and ergonomic. Absolutely no comparison.

x'cept the jumpseat.

The Buses has by far the most un-comfy j/s in the business.
From the -300 and up.

Go Boeing if ya wanne ride in comfort.

The 80 flew lousy compared to the 717/DC9. The 'Bus is very comfortable. I'd rather fly the 80 over the 'Bus (but of course the '17 will always be my favorite).

You all can keep your Airbii.

Hey I hate to say it, but the 320 series of Airbii ain't a bad ride.. it's very intuitive for the naive.. :)

I don't mind the 757, though. It's old technology, but nicely done. If they could just get rid of that yoke so I could do my jepp revisions in peace on my tray table... :)

See ya bud :)

According to newsweek. Aren't most of their Md80s made in the 70s? Could they fly that long?

Ask the Marine Corps, they're still flying frogs(CH-46) with bullet holes from the Vietnam war!

Umm.. no. The honor of most uncomfortable J/S goes to the CRJ.

I would have loved to have flown the 717 and the DC-9 Series 10/15/30. All of the old TW/OZ Captains I flew with said that the -10 was like a sports car, and the 717 was identical except with all the new stuff. In fact, they said that the best way to land a DC9-10 was to get just a tad of stick shaker right as you touched down!

Patriot...enjoy that nice big cockpit, you are one lucky dude to have gotten it as a new hire!

There are a ton of uncomfortable jumpseats, but I think the best are in the 75/76/777 ( a full seat, actually.) Hey, at least the DC9/MD80s have foot rests!

That was one of the two ways to land it, the other way being a nice three-point touch down. I had to learn both ways on IOE and then I never flew a -10 again.

You've obviously never been on an E145 jumpseat...

Or the #2 jumpseat on a 737. You know, the one behind the CA seat. Forty minutes in that contraption and you'll be reaching for the crash axe--to use on your legs! TC

I'll take the L1011 for both riding on a jumpseat, and hand flying a sweet airplane. I have seen 5 or 6 crew members standing in the cockpit during a "trans-con". They were mostly commuters (in the old days when we could go up during a flight to chat with crew) who got board in the back. The hard part was getting out of the gate. Ha Ha.

How about trying to start the engines at ABQ on a cold morning. TC

Yes the field would go IFR until our tailpipe fire heated everything back up and it would go VMC again. I still love that airplane though.

You and me both!

Brings back some fond memories. I used to work the ramp for UA back in 1986. Every morning around 7am we would just stop loading and watch the "show". The big TWA L-1011 pushing back from the gate. I can still hear the sound of those RB-211's coming to life, moaning and groaning, loads of smoke flowing out of the tailpipe. The engines starting would to vibrate the windows in the teminal, simliar to when a DC-8 lights up. Once those mighty engines came to life, we'd watch it on it's take off roll. Now those RB-211's singing a fine tune as the mighty -1011 rotates and takes to the sky on it's way to STL. The "good ole days" :)

Now that the bad jumpseats (Left-hand B737!) are identified, how about the good ones? My vote goes to the 777. That cockpit is so large, it's like a small apartment... you could have a party in there. The prime jumpseat is designed for relief pilots, and is better than many CA and FO seats in other aircraft.

CX880,

I looked on the internet for a Newsweek article saying AA will not buy any planes until 2013. I couldn't find anything. Where did you see that article? What month/issue? Just curious.

Thanks.

The two best jumpseats I've ever had the pleasure to occupy were on the DC-10 and the 747-400. DC-10 jumpseat behind the CA was like being in an IMAX theater. The window was huge and offered a great view. On the -400 there is a lounge chair up there plus a bunk room in the back of the cockpit.

On the early model 767-200 jumpseating was quite nice. Talk about a small apartment. The original cockpit was designed for a F/E but airlines wanted a two man airplane. So the first 50 or so -200's had a big empty space where the F/E panel would have been.

The best jumpseat I've ever ridden on is the 767-400 at CAL. It slides around on a track and can go sideways and recline almost horizontally. And there's even the "FE desk" to eat your first class leftovers.

We used to throw a football around when riding up front in the C-5. When we got tired, we took a shower and had the buffet.

Great way to travel for an Army puke on deployment. After landing, life would once again begin to suck (a relative term). Children, please go AF. Great JS if you can get it.

Best jumpsseat? Easy AF A340 from CDG to the states they gave me the crew bunk, you have your own room, lock the door and enjoyed the bottle of champagne they just gave me. Thanks again Cap!!!

I would vote for the EMB-120 as worst jumpseat, with the F-100 a close second.
