Harpers Ferry woman awaits court date in airline threat case
10/07/2003
Harpers women charged with making a phone call to an airline stating one of their flights was being targeted by a rocket launcher.
Denise Kimball, 46-year old resident of Harpers Ferry, is awaiting a November 10 federal court date after being indicted on charges of making a false statement to a mass transportation facility. Those charges stem from a phone call Kimball allegedly made September 9 of this year to American Airlines Southwestern Reservations Office in Tucson, AZ to falsely state that one of the company's airplanes, American Flight 523, was being targeted by a rocket launcher.
Jeff Tarpinian, media spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) field office in Omaha, NE, said the investigation is ongoing and awaiting the results of a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation of Kimball. He also said details of the investigation, including the pinpointing of Kimball as the caller, can not be released at this time due to its ongoing status.
If convicted, Kimball could face as much as 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
