I know this is the regional forum...just curious...saw on TV in the crew room briefly that an AA flight diverted...neone know why, where or any details in general?

LONDON, England (AP) -- A London-to-Boston flight was called back to Heathrow Airport on Monday after U.S. authorities discovered a passenger's name was on their "no-fly" list, officials said. Four passengers were being questioned by border control officers.

that answers my question...thank you

My question is this.. Why do we keep having these return to fields for pax being found on the "no-fly" list after the plane is in the air????? Anyone know why they are not flaged at check in?

The list for each flight is finalized AFTER they close the door. Then it is transmitted to the US, where it takes some time to process the list and issue the order to divert the flight. I think they are trying to get the list done earlier, but that would entail a mandatory early check-in, and check in would have to be no-sh*t CLOSED long before the departure time... "I'm sorry ma'am, it's 1 hour 58 minutes prior to departure, we closed the list at 2 hours, you will not be able to board this flight..."

Seems like it would be a lot easier, cheaper, and less disruptive to other passegers to simply pick up the undesirable at the arrival gate in these cases.

Which sort of negates the whole purpose of a "no-fly" list.

It's a don't arrive list.

if we can implement a program like the CASS system that automatically pulls up this type of information out of a computer database why we cant we do the same in a more effective and fast way with the international no fly list?

My question is why are so many people with names matching those on this "No Fly list" harassed over it? Do they not have a secondary way of verifying a person's identity matches the person on the list besides just the first and last name? I recently flew with a guy that said for years he was harassed at customs because someone with his name was on this list. His name was very common.

My next door neighbor's name is on one of the lists, it took him about 2 weeks to prove that he was not the same person as is on the list, then when he went to the airport with a letter officially stating that they still harassed him during check in.

neone know what basis the government has to put your name on a list....im assuming its not just names of middle eastern descent (no disrespect to anyone), how do they constitute a John M. Smith as being a suspect?

Terrorists can make our lives miserable very easily, without killing anyone.

Look at Richard Reid... the shoebomber guy.

How long before we get a terrorist with plastique molded up in his ass?

Then we will all bend over every time we go the airport... BOHICA !

And given the no fly list, how long before terrorist start naming themsleves with American names?

Like John Smith. Or Dennis Patrick.

Every single American would be getting flagged in the TSA system of the no fly list.
