Post office: AA doesn't deliver

The Postal Service wants to scrap American Airlines' contract for domestic mail delivery — possibly costing the airline millions. "They were not meeting the goal of on-time performance," Jim Quirk, a Postal Service spokesman, tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (free registration). "We gave them time to meet goals and they didn't." American disputes that, insisting the contract is valid. But the airline does concede talks are underway. "We're having a conversation about the nature of our relationship. But our contractual relationship with the Postal Service has not changed," said an AA spokesman. Government figures show American picked up $22.4 million from domestic and international mail delivery during the first nine months of last year. "Revenue is revenue, and right now American doesn't have a lot of it," said Robert Mann, an airline industry analyst and consultant with R.W. Mann. Posted at 7 a.m. ET

Word from the line yesterday is they do not have enough rampers to unload in a timely manner. Save a few hundered thousand in layoffs, lose $100 million in revenue! Ops normal for AMR...

Standby for another concession demand to offset this "unfortunate, unforeseen loss of revenue".

Which, of course, 70% of the pilot ASSociation will readily agree to.....and probably throw in a little extra (the new relationship and all, ya know)

Oh....and dont forget more furloughs too.

Washington Post reports US Air and AA both losing their contracts. That's ok, because I still haven't seen my federal pension or benefits for doing the USPS's job of delivering hundreds of pounds of mail per leg.

The Bush Administration must not have received enough campaign contributions from either company.
