A certain topic has been neglected lately on this forum, and I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that
crew scheduling sucks!
There are United and Delta furloughees leaving here for Skywest and Comair
because our
crew scheduling sucks!

Makes me glad I passed on that FSI 800 hour bridge program a couple of years back.

Oh, don't get me wrong...the benefits outweigh the whims of Willie.

But, for Chrissake, when it comes time to do the line completion thing, do they have to stick a trip with an obscenely long layover in ORD the day before my vacation? Better still, we don't duty-out until after the last DFW-TYS flight has left, so I may very well spend the first morning of my vacation commuting home. (I know, I know: I chose to commute. Actually, commuting's been going extremely well...except for this particular weekend.)

It's not always like this: we're in contract negotiations now, and scheduling is turning the screws to distract us. Same thing went on about five years ago.

Pretty soon I may be saying "so, what horsepower are you looking for in a John Deere garden tractor?"

At least I get to fly my dad on a trip this week. First flight since September, and some get-ready work for that tomorrow.

Thanks. When I had the interview at Home Depot, the manager remarked that they "couldn't pay me as much as what I made as a Lear pilot." I didn't have the heart to tell him I would probably make MORE at HD than I had flying a LR.

As for ASA, I think I may be a little outside their hiring profile.

What say you, Bobby? Do you think I could get on at ASA?

Crap. Now the conversion for UTC is going to change again. I can never keep that straight.

Just set your wristwatch to UTC. Of course, when someone asks you what time it is, you'll look foolish doing the math in your head after looking at your watch...
 
I actually have two separate hour hands on the watch I have now. I set one to UTC and the other to the local time zone. It works out quite nicely.

Still is a pain in the a$$ when looking at a whether chart that was created at 1700Z. Now what the he!! time was that?!?:eek:
 
It was nice having an overnight in Indiana... no clock change, no loss of sleep! :)

I have a problem with going from UTC to local (also called "lazy"), and my watch has a digital readout and analog hands. The digital stays on UTC and the analog hands tell local. It's a Timex, and it's the only kind of watch I'll ever own, because I can't find another watch that has both functions like that, and Indiglo. I couldn't live without my Indiglo. I've never used the Indiglo function in an airplane, but I know I'll need it someday....

--Finally I used to wear $30 Timex's until I moved to Alaska. They stop working at -30F. Now I wear an $80 Swiss Army watch. It's functional *and* stylish at all temperatures.

The watch I have is made by Wenger. There is a standard hour hand that moves 360 degrees twice in a 24 hour period, then another "hour hand" which is longer (about the size of the minute hand), but thinner. It moves 360 degrees once ina 24 hour period and measures along a scale on the outside of the watch (which is marked off into 24 segments).

I too suffer from this "lazy" thing that AV1ATRX speaks of. Hence the watch.

Heck--I was just playing along. God knows I'm guilty of hijacking my fair share.

Besides that I always enjoy checking out the watches of fellow aviators. It tells ya a little sumptin' 'bout dem....
