While I counter with unions that have, such as PATCO and the APA. I ask you to offer arguments on their results and how it would effect current day union "tough guy" actions that you advocate.

Trying to get an answer out of you, is like asking Spicoli to elaborate on why the NY delegation abstained from signing the Declaration of Independence. It is just not going to happen.

I am sure you are a college educated young man, but when it comes to the issues discussed you have zero education and no experience. The only way for you to play in the sandbox is to put guys on the defensive with cheap shots, baseless comments, unfounded accusations and lies.

Correction...my beef is with ALPA. Prater is the one who sailed into office on the grandiose, if hollow, platform of "Taking It Back"

Rez, PATCO was a failure because A) They only got about 75% of the membership to strike B) There was plenty of forewarning of an impending strike, so Reagan had time to formulate a contingency plan. No element of surprise and the solidarity was not there. The APA blinked first over the financial interests of the Union...not the employee group.

Now that you've had time to read up on PATCO.....

Wrong again..... PATCO failed because it was illegal to strike. Regardless of how effective they were, the strike was illegal.

As far as the APA, you can't run an organization without money, son.

However, the ubiquitous point is these unions tried tough guy tactics and failed. In addition, it set a bad precedent for all of us... and still does... Even if we wanted to be tough guys the actions of PATCO and APA have got the opposition on guard

We are all disgusted with ALPA. However, you offer no solutions. Or the ones you do offer are about as pragmatic as a hot tub on the space shuttle. It just isn't going to happen. Your broken record gets old. More pilots getting involved and elected proper leaders is viable.

History has proven that when the masses unify, change occurs. We can sit around and be pessimist like you or we can man up and work to effect change despite the fact that we know the union has problems...

Watched a real union today stand up for it's workers. It was the UAW.

Well your first mistake is likening UAW to ALPA. Your second is calling ALPA a union. It's not. It's an association and it's governed by the Railway Labor Act. We are held to much different rules than the UAW and as such we must behave differently.

I don't think that the government should be proping up the last vestage of US industrial might any more than they should socialize medicine. The government has already allowed our electronics, aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding, toy making, clothing/textile, merchant marine and steel industries to be run into the ground and moved offshore.

Why the last ditch effort to save Detroit? The CEO's who led the companies to where they are have no vested interest in those companies. They get thier golden parachutes regardless...800,000 serfs more or less don't matter to them any more that the serfs who maintain and move the metal for an airline matter to their management.

In my experience in working for companies that have moved production overseas...there's ALWAYS a catch! From the lead paint toy recall to a much larger scale with Boeing and the missed production deadlines. Where the government has failed us is by not putting up barriers to stem the glut of cheap, foreign made crap from flooding our markets. Is it a surprise that Americans, accustomed to a higher QOL than most third world countries, can't compete on an international level?

With America all but completely transformed to a service economy...what's the difference if a few mismanaged auto companies leave the scene?

When the government does bail out the big three (While keeping the same mismanagement teams in place...) it will be a day late and a dollar short.

I believe that, and most statistics show, that the American worker can compete just fine against workers from other nations.

Allowing any one of the 'Big 3' will be excruciatingly painful to America. However, that would be the least painful outcome to the vast majority of the American populace. The enormous debt that we are running up to address this crisis will affect us as a country for generations to come.

Personal responsibility in America? I'm for it, but I just haven't seen any of it in a long time.
