Single Pilot IFR night freight in a ratted out beat to heck Metro II or III with no GPS, that will teach you to fly.
 
A "real" airplane is in the eye of the beholder, a Dutchess I don't think is anyone's ideal... try flying something else before settling on that for pete sake, a Baron, a Cub, or a Huskey maybe, build your own? maybe join the military and fly something fast, anything but a Dutchess
 
You sound bitter, spud -- don't like the Double-Breasted Skipper much? ;)
 
Bitter? Never! but an OV-10 Bronco is prettier and more "real" than a Dutchess *in my eyes of course* ;)

Well, without flaps....there is no flaps on the catalina. Just have to keep the pitch up until touchdown, and a good amount of power + trim

I never flown those airplanes. I will soon and really looking forward to it. I love flying hte C414 and pawnee at my current job, but the CRJ looks great too. I am sure it is a nice ride, without the attitude.

I've flown two real airplanes, the J-3 and the F-111.

The F-4 was real, but there is some question that it was an airplane.
 
There is a problem when people start calling training twins with counter-rotational props real airplanes. That is like saying, "Man, that 172 kicks a$$."
Whether I am flying a 172, King Air, or Citation, I will never forget the things I learned my first airplane, the Champ, a real plane.
 
There's a 400hp IO720 powered Glasair III for sale here in OK right now... 300kt cruise, 5,000 fpm climb rate. Better have your sh!t together before climbing in that one!

I did my initial taildragger training in a 1947 Aeronca AC-11 Chief... That one is short coupled enough to make you work pretty hard. The last AG Cat I flew would fall in there as well; a biplane with a big, loud 600hp round engine. Definitely a REAL airplane.
