not sure I understand it completely

let's say I wanted to get to CVG from SLC, and I fly for Commutair. I can go on CAL thru MSP or IAH, but...

there is a DAL flight that goes goes direct 4 times a day from SLC. I understand that the jumpseat(s) go to DAL guys first, everyone else second? is there a pecking order? also, if the jumpseat is full, can I pay an amount to fly in an open seat if there is one on the DAL flight?

wondering, thanks

If I'm not mistaken, Delta can take as many "jumpseaters" as there are empty seats on the airplane. You'll go in the cockpit last after Delta and DCI pilots, FAA, etc., but if there's a seat in back, you should get it.

But I could be wrong...haven't jumped on Delta in quite a while. Anybody know different?

If this is true, it is a recent change. The last I knew was that they only took the number of jumpseaters as there are actual jumpseats on board.

As an off-line pilot (Commutair), you would not be allowed on the cockpit jumpseat at all.

I heard that Delta will only take as many jumpseaters as there are jumpseats, so 1 or 2 depending on AC.

BTW, how many jumpseats does the 767 and 757s have? what about other AC, most just have 1, right?

why is that? I thought it was reciprocated among almost all carriers?

Jumpseat agreements are reciprocated among almost all carriers, but the new security directives since 9/11 do not allow for pilots of off-line carriers (except in special circumstances where certain carriers are able, through their computer systems, to veryify their employment, such as with Alaska and NWA) to have access to the actual cockpit jumpseat. There must be an open seat in the back for you to ride.

I know that on Delta.....Delta, ASA, and Comair pilots can ride in each others jumpseats. There may be a few other of the Delta Connection Carriers that can also ride the jumpseat, but I'm not sure.

OAL pilots can "jumpseat" on DL, CO, UA, AA, etc., but they just can't sit in the actual jumpseat. It's because there is no way to positively confirm the company ID of the person trying to ride in the jumpseat. All airlines have adopted this policy until further notice.

so, if you 'jumpseat' in the passenger cabin, do you have to pay, or can you sit anywhere there is an open seat? first class?
