A-Hole Pilot of the Day

I've been in the local FBO when a corporate crew was stuck without a ride to get some lunch and offered them transportaiton in my car. I guess if the average attitude is to piss on my carpets I'll have to revise my opinions about providing any future relief, be it a ride to the deli or accomodating your sorry asses in the world we fly in.

Unfortunately, the characterization of small business/aircraft owners as suited snobs who think the sun shines out of their azzes and that common courtesy does not apply to them, in the air or on the ground, is not to far removed from reality. I've seen way too many instances of it to not believe there's some basis of truth in the stereotype. Next time ... pee on the carpet of their Cirrus when you head out to preflight on the return trip. You'll feel better about the whole thing.

Nothing wrong with my reading comprehension. My sense of humor is very intact. I fly myself, you fly others for probably less pay than I spent on my airplane last year (insert smiley face). Yeah, it sucks to be me. Now, how is your sense of humor?

I've not taken the first shot here at any point. I opined that the FBO controls the car, no reason to get mad at anybody, including a Cirrus driver. Seems to me you were pissing on the carpets (even if in jest) before it riled me up. You have a bad attitude about the others that share the skies. You are right, there are some pilots who could do better. On any given day, any off us could do better. I frustrate at them occasioanlly myself. However, it isn't limited to the small aircraft.

That was the response I was looking for Snakum. See, you need the help with your reading comprehension. Did you miss the smiley face? Did you loose your sense of humor? See, when it gets personal, it is a little tougher. I spent four days two months ago helping my A&P replace my carpets. I don't take kindly to anyone even joking about pissing on them. I am also an advocate of flying small aircraft...big ones too.

You have me and most of the private flying people out there dead wrong. Some of the nicest bunch of "rich" people you might ever bump into. Spend a week camping at Oshgosh and you will know what I mean. I sincerely hope that every professional pilot has a successful and safe career. I have posted here before regarding the inadequate pay and suggested that CFI's should be paid more by all of us. I don't look down on any corporate, airline or other pilot who worked hard enough or was lucky enough to fly some things I'd love to fly. Envious would probably better describe it.

Many years ago I gave way for an incoming bizjet. When I got on the ground and tied up, the pilot and co-pilot had unloaded all the passengers and golf clubs and were standing by the airplane when I walked by. I said hello, and the pilot asked me if I were the Mooney pilot who did the 360 to let them in first. I was. I got a great tour of that airplane, a wonder in its day. Remembered and appreciated some 30+ years later. A little sugar goes a long way.

But then, every once in awhile, comes along someone who just makes me wonder where they lost the wonder of flying. I can have a nice day just wipping the bugs off the airplane. Yeah, it sucks to be me.

Jumpseating

What is wrong with doing that? I personally jumpseat all the time when deadheading if it saves a passenger from having to be bumped. I know ALPA says we aren't supposed to do that but its my life to live and my choice to make.

What your doing is what a SCAB does and thinks and its AGAINST your jumpseat policy and if you get caught then your whole airline will be banned from further jumpseating and you will in turn be terminated. Express One used to do this many years back and was blackballed by the industry for doing so.

Govern yourself accordingly and look out for your fellow aviators.

I hope you guys that flew into Norfolk today are reading this! For the rest of you, there I am in the lobby waitin for Pax when these two guys come in, in a Cirrus. They're in suits w/ briefcases and walk up to the desk. I couldnt believe my f'in ears when he said, "Yeah we're here for a few hours, got a meeting. So do ya'll have a crew car or anythin'?" "Um, yeah we do, there's a 2hr limit on it but, thats okay." I was BULL SH*T. This tool comes in, asks for the crew car for his personal business??!!! What is wrong w/ this industry??? This is got me more pissed than someone jumpseating to reposition as Crew!! There are limited cars, just as seats, and this guy had the sack to ask for it for his meeting??? How broke is this company he's working for, and if its his own company than SHAME ON HIM! If you guys are reading this, I hope your crew car broke down and you had to have your company pay for a tow and a shotty rental! Its a good thing it wasnt a signature because I'm sure they would have ran out of popcorn too!!

SO... SO... right. I got the shaft from, get this, the SAME captain that got beat down by the captain I was flying with a few years ago. I got dnied, and got an occurance at work because one prick was going to show that other guy up.

To my credit, I didn't hold it aginst him and went back home and played golf for a couple of days. I got on the next one I tried to jumpseat, and the same guy was the captain then too. What goes round ALWAYS comes around and usually picks up speed when it's heading towards YOU. Be nice, enjoy the ride and don't keep tripping over your own tallywacker.... Yall know who you are.

I took a crew car to the beach for a whole day in Naples, FL once, they didn't care. I was flying a rental Cessna and didn't even buy gas.

Paco here said in a previous post that he would take a neat little general aviation job and totally under cut someone who is trying to build time by doing it for free. On top of that, he said that he would use the JS to dead head and pick up the aircraft to be re-positioned. If that isnt abusing the JS, I dont know what is. Anyone who flies for an airline should know better than using the JS for business. It's designed for pleasure Paco!!! Some of your UAL brothers even ask, "are you JSing for business or pleasure?" Shame on you kid! Go back to Mexico and fly a 182 and pay your dues down there!

I think that what is needed is professional courtesy. As a corporate pilot, I once flew into a small airport where the crew car wasn't returned until 4:00 pm because the guys didn't want to rent a car from the night before. When you arrive at some BFE airport at 8:00 am and can't get a bite to eat until 4:00, that ticks me off. Can my company afford to rent a car? Yeah, but they aren't going to, nor am I going to quit because they won't. My company has a financial responsibility to our share holders and I have a financial responsibility to the bottom line. I don't believe that the corporate pilot who buys 1,000 gallons of gas has the right to keep the car any longer than the 172 pilot who buys only 10 gallons. On the other hand, I don't think that the 172 pilot who buy 60 gallons has any more right to keep the car all day than the corporate pilot who didn't buy any. I have used the crew car to run errands while on a trip, so I don't believe that it's just for getting a bite to eat. But if I am planning on using the car for an extended period of time, I'll leave my cell phone number with the FBO. That way when the next crew is in need of it for some lunch they can call me. If I don't get a call, then I know that no one else needs it. In our line of work, a little profession courtesy goes a long way. Next time you take the car to the beach for the day, just remember that someday you'll eating out of a snack machine while someone else is out picking up chicks at the beach.

Your exactly right. Last place I flew at had the ole "commute credit" deal. Some guys JSed to and from work for business. One guy got nailed by UAL as he admitted (when asked by the UAL cptn) if he was JSing for business or pleasure....yah, he said business and lost his JS privelages for 6 mo. Not only that, he did again after that........... Thats what will happen to you too Newman when they find out.....they have their ways of gettin it out of yah.

Yah, people like the guy I mentioned above and people like Espaldo really need to exhibit some common courtesy out there. Espaldo, show some respect for the jumpseat....it's a privelage that we can use for PLEASURE and dont think of it as a "freebie" as you do everything else here.
