...Lost around 3 years seniority in strike time...

So did everyone else on the list during the strikes.

Scab Lists

If no one scabs then there is nothing to worry about.

Management intimidation

I double dare them to intimidate me or my family.

Picket lines that shut the entire airport down for Hours.

Good!

Fist fights at picket lines.

I was a Teamster previously, I still have my wrench to bust knees.

Phone calls in the middle of the night

Since I (we) won't have a 0400 show for picketing they can call all night if they want, or I will just turn off my phone.

Sometimes a wild cat strike is needed to put management on their heals and take notice.

That is illegal, per the RLA.

If a few MEC's go to Jail for a bit for "illegal job action, so what, that Damage has been done. Just like when a company say's fly and greive later.

I haven't really heard of anyone going to jail for illegal job action, performing an illegal action at a picket or protest is a different story.

I guess what I am saying is I have seen the "chest thumping" in the past, but it fizzles real fast when the reality of losing your seniority, job, and life style.

Who thumped their chests only to have it fizzle out?

I have been through this phase numerous times in the end it just seems like Noise.

With whom and when?

The result of this vote is a victory for Spirit pilots
...in the battle, not the war, but a victory just the same.

If negotiations begin to progress and lead to an industry standard contract for the Spirit pilots that will be an all out victory.

Our immediate goal is good faith bargaining. We will strike if ultimately we need to, but an industry standard contract can be achieved without striking.

Well said!

The NWA Mechanics also took a hard stand against management. Things didn't turn out so well for those guys though. Scabs were bussed in to take over. Union's are not immune against union busting. Hopefully the Spirit pilots are well aware of the consequences. Management and their high priced lawers are planning "war games" as we speak. This game ain't checkers, it's chess. Think very hard before you move your pieces. Every move has life-altering impacts.

I think their situation would have been totally different if the union local had been exclusively mechanics - remember, it included all the aircraft cleaners as well. NWA wanted to outsource all those jobs. They could have offered the mechaincs 100% raises and not gotten a contract approved because all the cleaners - whose skill level and training is significantly different - would vote against.

Since the Spirit pilots don't have such a problem, hopefully mgmt will look at the solidarity of the union vote and make a reasonable offer.

then why are we talking strike?

Anyone else hear that Spirit just started accepting resumes?

While it's certainly true that former strikers wear their battle star pins with pride, it's not true at all that you need one to get elected to a top position. The VP-Admin, basically the #3 guy in ALPA, doesn't have a battle star pin. I think there is only 1 EVP left that has one.
Now that's some funny stuff right there!
Battle Stars? I can't stop laughing. You guys are the biggest group of chodes. You banter and talk tough all day, then you go to the bars and drink a spritzer and reminisce of all the cool things you said you were going to do if you were to strike.
In the end, ALPA will never allow a vote. Ask the PCL guys. They even voted 99.39% to vote! Wow, they're uber serious compared to your weak little 98%!!
Quit wasting your time pretending you're going to vote. It will never happen.

Hard to get leverage if you don't show them that you're willing to take it to the mat.
Again PFT_128, you have to be one of the most comical, delusional pilots out there.
Take it to the mat? Have you ever seen a mat before? What are you going to take to this mat?

Welcome to the ignore list, WayBack.

Not a chance. There are 65 pilots who still have not received a call. About a total of 80 on the street.
Nothing on Spiritair.com under current job postings either. Spirit won't be hiring anytime soon. Just like every other airline out there. This fall is gonna get ugly. Lot's more furloughs to come from regionals to mainline. Passenger demand is decreasing fairly quickly.

Talking to my friend who is a CP at AirTran, they're looking to cut more pilots in the fall. 300+ more.

They are getting new planes early next year (who Knows..) .. My PC expired already so they have to plan on giving me 2-3 months of training again.

Interesting and good point. PCL...whatever happened with the Pinnacle Group and their strike vote?

Weather we strike is completely beyond the point at this moment. What is important is that the NK pilots decided to move on toward a strike. This step was needed against a management that has the classical stance toward labor. Without this step the process was not going to move on, and a contract would have been further delayed. This does not mean we will have a contract, or a strike in a month but simply means that we are moving along toward the moment when finally some meaningful negotiations can be done.

A strike vote is just a first step, as you know. The NMB still has to release you into a cooling off period before you can strike. But from what I'm hearing, PCL is actually very close to getting a TA, so I don't think there's going to need to be a strike.

Wow, you are so full of it!
No one has posted on that particular thread since 12/2007 and no one has posted about a PCL since then!
How long is this cooling off period? Save your BS answer, I already know it. I have friends who are PCL and said it's a dead issue. TA is no where on th horizon. ALPA failed as usual, the same ALPA you worked for.

No, there isn't going to be a strike. Because ALPO will tell it's pilots group the infamous "Well, this was the best what we can get. We were backed into the corner. Live to fight another day....Oh, and accept this sh*t contract like Mesa did"

PFT_128
I guess management "took it to the mat." Knocked ALPA out, rolled them up in the mat and ditched them in the river.
