777 and Winglets

I was in the aero department at Boeing when the -200ER and -300ER were being developed. We took several winglet and raked tip designs to the wind tunnel and the raked tip had better drag coefficients. Same reason you see the raked tip on the 767-400ER. These airplanes were developed concurrently.
