Dennis Miller said:It has progressed over the years and the 3rd party vendors have produced software that would be a big help in learning an aircraft. One company is PMDG and a link to their 737 website is

Has the 737 FMC and all the switches do what they are supposed to do. I think they only work on FS2004 though, you could check it out.

During training my partner and I used the sim extensively to fly our upcoming profiles because the sim is 98% the same as the real airplane (glass, overhead panel, FULL FMC system, power settings, TOGA modes, LNAV etc.) It was very helpful to me as a pilot coming from a non-FMS equiped aircraft to SWA and I used it to fly full LOFT type scenarios down to the arrivals etc. which by the way, the FMC includes a FULL world database of every airport, runway, arrival etc. just as the real aircraft would have.
Is the standard MSFS 2004 useful for an airline pilot? I would say no because it would only be useful for practicing basic scan and flying simple approaches and of course we all can do that. But is there add-on software out there that will allow you to sim some really complex aircraft like the 737-700 down to the last switch? YOU BET.
