I would like to purchase a new pair of headsets but need some advice on which type. I currently fly the RJ but I'm hoping that SWA is in my future. I don't want to waste my money on 2 different headsets so can any 737 pilots tell me which headset they find to be the best and most comfortable? Does SWA recommend a certain pair?
Thanks

Sennheiser HMEC45-KA

I have been using these for 5+ years prior to getting on @ SWA. I am using them now in the 737 and still would not give them up for ANYthing!

The 737 cockpit is loud and the noise supression provided by this headset is GREAT!!

For the BEST deal anywhere buy the factory re-furbs from;

Good luck with your desire to be a SWA employee!!

I've used the Plantronics MS50/T30-2 style headset w/ a custom earmold v.s. the headband. It worked well in the B737-300/500 as well as the 200 series aircraft. If you go this route, purchase a "soft" custom earmold as opposed to the hard model. It was somewhat uncomfortable after a few hours, but the headset worked well .... except when I accidentally dipped the microphone in my food :)

Plantronics MS50

America West gives us a Plantronics Model MS 50/T30. All you have to do is get an earmold made ($60) and your in business. I think Southwest gives their pilots the same thing. Right? If the cockpit is too noisy for you, put an ear plug in the other ear and it's very quiet and alot cheaper than a noise canceling headset.

If you want to buy one, I recommend Marv Golden .

I second the Sennheiser HMEC45-KA. I've used them on the 737, 757 and 717, and they are far and away the best headset I have come across. However, on the 757 and the 717 I find that I do not need the noise canceling feature like I did on the 737.

Has anyone tried the Telex Airman ANR 850 Headset. I am getting tired of sticking something in my ear everyflight.

My only gripe about the Sennheiser is that I have to shout much louder when the guy sitting next to me is wearing one. It's hard enough to be heard in a 737 cockpit (why Boeing doesn't use a full-time hot-mike is beyond me) and the ANR headsets do tend to make that situation even worse, in my experience.

The Plantronics is standard-issue to all SWA FNGs. Give it a try with the earmold (and an ear plug in the opposite ear above 250 KIAS) first before plunking down coin on an ANR. It's free, it's compact, and it's absolutely the lightest headset in existence. Plus you'll help save my voice. :D

I just wanna know what ivauir has been sticking in his ear..or maybe I don't :)

Can you be specific as to what didn't work with the 850?

Thanks

I am using the Plantronics with the ear mold and I find it uncomfortable - I was hoping to not spend 500 bucks 'cause then I'll have to pick up and that means less open time for Indapool! ;)
