What I'm curious about is why Paul Foley said this (if he indeed did). Announcing things like losses of contracts and bankruptcy when that information is not officially out to the public is a big deal. This guy is a professional spin-doctor. He did it for a reason and knows what he's saying.

So, he's either lost his mind, Mesa is in so bad of trouble that he can't contain himself anymore, or he's trying to scare the pilots in order to manipulate them.

Pdub20,

If mesa wins the lawsuit against Delta isn't there only 1 year left on the contract reguardless? Thought I heard that from a Mesa Pilot. He said if they win, it really just gives them one more year.

no, through 2012 according to their latest 10-Q

I was a little embarassed when the SkyWest COO was quoted in the Salt Lake Tribune saying that our first year pilot pay was comparable to that received by those in the profession of accounting, law and medicine.
From www.paysale.com:

Accountant: $37,306
Law (Paralegal): $37,569
Law (Lawyer) : $68,050
Medicine (RN): $46,982
Medicine (LVN): $31,257

Skywest FO: $19,800

He may of course been referring to the accounting office's janitor, the paralegal's secretary and a cadavor.

I love this post!

-Truth hurts!!

Not unless JO can get DIP financing before he files! That's the new rules which came out in 2005. Delta and NWA filed on the same day just days befroe the new rules took effect. If he can not get DIP financing before he files it's straight to Ch.7. The contacts I still have in management at MAG are pretty much telling me the same thing Foley is putting out. We'll just have to wait and see what the next couple of months have in store.:bomb::rolleyes:

How did Frontier just pull it off then? Word is that they can't exit bankruptcy due to lack of financing.

Mesa can't file BK. It would be the end. They would lose all of their contracts. That's why they're flying CRJ2s in HI at major losses, better than having them just sit in PHX. Pump up the stock value a little... No other airline would operate with a stock that's worth pennies without filing BK. It's quite possible that this is just a case of hearsay that PF's words were taken out of context. However UA can and will opt out of the 36 airplanes in 2010. Either way Mesa only has about 6 to 12 months to go before either Ch11 or liquidation.

I predict that when Mesa does finally bite the dust, it will be one of those doors locked with no warning deals. The crews out on overnights will find out on CNN in the hotel and have to find their own way home.

but they have a CRJ to fly home...! VFR in a CRJ.
Gotta have gas, there isn't a regional crew that could afford to put in enough gas for the APU, much less flight.

If you think vendors aren't watching closely think again. If messa chains the doors, expect the flight crews to be woken up, removed from their rooms and bypass the breakfast bar, quickly and quietly.

With all that I have read this just doesn’t pass the J.O. litmus test. If he furloughs 350 it sets off musical chairs in the training department. Lots of training events. Big $. If they furlough 350 more then the music starts again. Half of the chairs get removed and then the music stops. Presto, Big $ in training cost again. I have seen and always admired those on boards who can really get to the bottom of a rumor. So I have tried. I have a friend..... never mind. The standing bids administrator at Mesa SP has seen the thread over on APC. More to follow if I find out.

She says the BOD has been tip toeing around corporate for a while. Something is definitely brewing. It is being held in strict confidentially. She is usually the first to know for obvious reasons. She knows nothing about 700 furloughs. Just the current. When asked about this she wanted to see the source very enthusiastically. Hummmmmmm.

So maybe Mesa takes 50 Mil from Delta to just go away. We suspend the leases on the ERJs and most of the CRJ 100/200. 12 ERJs and 10 CRJ currently parked at 100,000 a month each. 2.2 mil just wasted. Some of the United CRJ 100/200s get pulled as well under the direction of United. They get replaced at a 1 to 3 ratio with 700s. The go away money from Delta is used to finance the new 700s for United that are bought at a killer recession deal.

Just a thought. Has no merit at all just me thinking.

Anyway J.O. will not do it unless he already knows that he can come out smelling like a rose. So who really knows what he is up to? He won’t shoot unless he knows he can rebound.

Where does the 50 mil number come from? How about a big fat 0 from Delta, they let them go BK with this UA deal and pull the contract then. That's certainly cheaper.
