Latest award: 7 month upgrade on CRJ900
28 day upgrade on Saab

I guess it paid off for the FOs that held out for the 900. An extra 15-20k a year for the gamble. Good work guys. I should have done the same thing.

Wow!!!

A year ago 220 were still officially furloughed. 7 months ago I was thrilled to be commuting to DTW to sit straight reserve.

It's nice to see the movement though.

Never. Not allowed to hire street CAs on the Jet. Have to release the seat locks first.

Who cares, If you've got 200 hour pilots coming in like most of them are you still need 3 to 4 years to upgrade, assuming they're icao atp.

The seat locks are going to HAVE to be released shortly. Between this 7 month FO and the bottom I would guess there is only a small amount who would be qualified to upgrade. Just like the saab, it hits the floor and now to staff the plane they will release seat locks one for one to staff the a/c.

The least they could do, just to start, is release the requal Captains from their "seatlock." Good move to the Fo hold outs... but WHO KNEW it would end up like this?

FO

I'm being nit-picky here, but why are upgrade times always being talked about like this? It should be 'Someone who has been at Mesaba for seven months just upgraded'. At some point, hiring catches up with deliveries. So Mesaba will get around 50 airplanes. Figure 500 new-hires (10 per plane, five per seat). APC says there are 30 CRJ's on property which leads me to believe there will be about 200 more new-hires. If I were to apply and get on right now, what will be my upgrade time?

I only say this because I think there are many out there on this board that jump from airline to airline for a quick upgrade. While I'd say this is interesting information, I don't consider it good except for those that are upgrading.

On another note, good for the FO's (and a lot of displaced captains) that hung around. I would have never guessed you guys would have ever received 900's. Good luck.

Coming soon to a snowbank near you...

Sad and Funny!

This is just sad and funny at the same time-much like getting titty f-ed by a clown!

I have to admit I'm shocked....7mo. to 900 CA....OMG

Shocked? Surprised? Really? Round and Round and Round we go. Welcome to the NWA/XJ/9E cyclical story. Apparantly no one remembers 9 and 11 month upgrades on the Avro. If you are truly surprised by anything that happens at the Red Scam Family, you haven't been flying there long enough.

BTW, congrats to the LOOOONNNGGGG time FO's that finally do get to upgrade. You hung in there and you deserve it.

Your right. I didn't forget the short upgrade on the Avro, am just surprised so many in detroit passed up the move to the jet, even accounting for those that are seat locked and those that could flow soon. Thats all. But thanks for welcome to the family, its good to be here. Its only been 10 years but I still haven't learned. Thanks for the info.

OMG! Did that happen to you? I know of a support group you may wanna look into...it's the "ACPWLTKBTFBC"...Adult Children of Parents Who Let Their Kids Be Titty F-ed By a Clown"...:)

There is no seatlock for upgrade. Only for a lateral move. i.e. you move from FO on the Saab to FO on the Jet.

Not quite...Here it is from the contract....

Section 24.C.4.b. is modified to read as follows until December 1,
2010:
b. A pilot who successfully completes training for any
Captain position shall be required to remain in that
Captain category for twenty-four (24) months, except:
(1) A Captain who successfully completes training for
an equal or lower paying category shall be
required to remain in that equal or lower paying
category for twenty-four (24) months, and
(2) A pilot subject to a Captain freeze will be released
from such freeze to prevent the hiring of a Captain
off the street.
Section 24.C.4.b. is modified to read as follows commencing on
December 1, 2010:
b. A pilot who successfully completes training for any
Captain position shall be required to remain in that
Captain category for twelve (12) months, except:
(1) A Captain who successfully completes training for
an equal or lower paying category shall be
required to remain in that equal or lower paying
category for twenty-four (24) months, and
(2) A pilot subject to a Captain freeze will be released
from such freeze to prevent the hiring of a Captain
off the street.

They are even treating the requals to Saab CA as a long-term training and subject to freeze. The top half of the company is subject to some type of freeze SFCA-CRJ2/9 CA, SFCA Requal, SFCA upgrade. The newhires however, are not subject to freeze unless lateral move.

i've sent my stuff in. wanting to get into 121. are you guys getting 20 more 900s next year. i'd like the fasttrack to an upgrade. have kids

Are those the kids in your picture?

Just for general info, on the latest vacancy revision the said junior upgrade is now listed as an alternate...being new still I'm not sure what exactly that entails, but I'm assuming some sort of delay.

They have 80 planes, they are getting 20 more. How long do you think it will take you to upgrade?

when i noticed 7 months, that was doable for me. i'm flying corporate now , in a jet, so ihave plenty of time and experience.

if I don't go now, it'll never happen with the door open at places like SWA etc.

under a year is good for me.

If you want to take the chance now is the time to get hired. With the flow threw starting and lot's of current new hires not even close to having the time to upgrade the window is wide open. The only warning I would have is your schedule and QOL will really not be pretty. It sounds like you are a pretty good guy from the looks of your posts and I think you would fit in well here at XJ and a quick upgrade would not be an issue.

I don't know if I'm making my point clear for you, RMOG. At this point, if you were hired tomorrow, you would probably not upgrade in a year unless most FO's didn't have the time. You would be roughly halfway up on the FO side. There would be at least 200 to upgrade ahead of you once deliveries stopped. Like I said before, don't ever look at what someone is saying upgrade time is. With the exception of street captains, upgrade time reported on this website is almost always wrong. Like I had said in a previous post, the post should have been 'Someone who was at Mesaba 7 months just upgraded'. And if you did upgrade, you would end up junior forever as FO's ahead of you on the list upgraded. I'm not saying don't do it, just the 7 mo. thing might not happen to you.

Street Captains do NOT jump the line for upgrade over any other pilots. The only reason Mesaba will hire a street captain is if there are NO eligible FO's bidding for the particular CA slot.

Therefore, if Mesaba is hiring Street CA's into the Saab (DTW + MEM), that means that those same CA slots are also open for immediate upgrade for any (ATP mins) FO on our seniority list.

So, it is true to state that upgrade time for Saab Captains is currently 0 months.

Good luck with your choice.

There still needs to be a vacancy so an immediate upgrad is not guaranteed when the growth stops in order for any FO to upgrade.

Good point. There must be a vacancy to get the upgrade. However, we've been pretty steady at vacancies every two weeks or so.

Certainly nothing is guaranteed in this business.
