A drunken, 66-year-old pilot has caused havoc at Frankfurt airport, one of Europe's biggest, delaying dozens of flights, German police said.
The pilot had an alcohol level of 1.74 grammes per liter of blood in his body, according to the police.

They said he took off from Egelsbach near Frankfurt on Thursday in a light aircraft, but air traffic controllers soon noticed that he was not heeding their instructions.
He tried and failed to land at nearby Hahn in poor weather conditions and then seemed to lose his direction.
A police helicopter eventually escorted the plane to land safely at Frankfurt international airport where both the pilot and the student were arrested.
The pilot is due to appear in court on charges of endangering air traffic safety.
About 30 planes from the German carrier Lufthansa alone were delayed because of his antics.
Under German law the affected airlines could claim compensation from the pilot.

National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH)****According to the 2003 NSDUH, 12.3 million Americans age 12 and older had tried methamphetamine at least once in their lifetimes (5.2 percent of the population), with the majority of past-year users between 18 and 34 years of age.

These old geezers can barely order a hamburger at Carl's Jr. without dicking it up beyond all recognition! They ought to be confined to some park feeding the pigeons. Get them the heck out of the cockpit and into the nursing home. Just saw where the 100yr old dude in LA that recently retired from the transit district enjoyed a whopping "few weeks" before he keeled over. Hope his heirs enjoy the bounty of his lifetime's efforts.

What are some common characteristics of this motorist most likely to die in a railroad crossing crash?
  • A white male, 25 to 34 years old with no college experience and a blue- collar job who reads "Field and Stream" and "Outdoor Life," watches the family channel on television, listens to country music on the radio, and chews tobacco.
Who would ask and answer these questions?
  • This information is from a November 1994 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Technical Report (DOT HS 808 196) written by Terry Klein, Tina Morgan, and Adrienne Weiner and entitled "Rail- Highway Crossing Safety: Fatal Crash and Demographic Descriptors." The report was one study resulting from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Rail-Highway Crossing Safety Action Plan, which combined proposals from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and NHTSA.

Thanks to MADD and a professional and civic conscience, I have nothing better to do but quote NHTSA statistics on a Friday night...

Evidently, bigger is not necessarily better. Isn't it also interesting to note, generation X has flowed through the ages of fatalities, like a kumquat down the neck of an ostarich...maybe they shouldn't be allowed to fly past age 60?

Further, the mean age of motorcyclists’ fatalities has also increased from 29.3 years in 1990 to 36.3 years in 2001. The analysis also indicates a corresponding rise in the average age of motorcyclists killed and greater involvement of motorcycles with larger engines in fatal crashes.

What does age 66 have anything to so with being drunk? I am not even 66 yet, and have drunk many times in my career, but never near airplane of course.

Too funny
