I applied for Express Jet 6 weeks ago and I have been reading gouges and people who applied weeks after me have already interviewed and are starting class. How long have you guys been waiting? Im starting to suspect it is because of my ethnic name and last name.

Trust me on this one, it has nothing to do with your ethnic background. My husband also applied online about 6 weeks ago and has heard nothing (and he's currently at a 121 airline with turbine PIC time on his resume). I don't know the why's or how's of their recruitment process (and I work here). If you come up with any good ideas on how to speed this process up for those who have been waiting for weeks, post it here....I'd love to speed this up for my husband, too.

good luck....

Did you ever consider it might be your very low total time? There are pilots with 8 times your experience looking for the very same jobs. It's a tough industry right now, and the forecast doesn't look any better. Good luck in your search.

6 whole weeks? I can't imagine what that might be like. Oh wait, that's right I applied for several years before I got my first 121 job (with several times your experience). Be patient, as the previous poster said it's very competitive now (come to think of it, it's ALWAYS very competitive) and you have a relativly small amount of experience.

I waited about 8 weeks or so for a phone interview. I am an impatient person as well at times, however in this market today you just have to learn to sit and wait it out at times.

All of the recruting team at XJT are working very hard to fill classes with quality and qualified people, which there is an abundance of right now considering the state of the industry. If you meet the minimums by all means apply, but understand that there may (more than likely will) be many others applying at the same time that not only meet, but far exceed the minimums.

Your lucky, hopefully they will never call you. Ill pay you minimum wage to come mow my yard instead. Once in a while I will cut your pay too, or at least threaten it. I will only make you work 10 hr days though, and you can sleep in my crashpad out back, i mean one car garage.

Just have to be patient, it took 3 weeks for me, but I have several friends with your time that waited 5-7 weeks before the call. With mins of 600/100 there will be a TON of people applying, and thats a whole lot of resumes to look at. It is extremely difficult, but just keep flying and be patient.

Maybe you should have told them you were black and female. They probably would have called the next day to offer you a captain's position.

Please, oh, please tell me that's flame bait.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone took you up on your offer, especially if you could log time on that mower.

Is that a MULTIENGINE mower? Does it run on Jet A?

If there's a sudden gust that blows grass in my face, can I log it as IMC?

If so... Post your phone number and I'll call ya.

;)

Oh please, give me a break. The online application clearly says 60-90 days and 6 weeks isn't even at the minimum. Have a little patience and you'll get called, and put the race card away.

Wait...are there any upfront costs? This isn't a PFM (Pay-For-Mowing) scheme is it?

:D

Actually did you consider you may have to much time for Xjet. Two of my buddy's just got hired and out of the whole pool only guys with under 800 TT got hired, just a thought.

Scary, very scary.

I waited well over two years in looking for a 121 job. After sending out close to 6000 resumes and cover letters I started getting calls from people. patience is something that one has to have in this business... good hunting....

Scrolling through our seniority list, I can assure you it has nothing to do with your name. My advice to you would be don't bring your current attitude to an interview if you're invited. (The "You're-discriminating-against-me-because-of-my-ethnicity." and "I-have-1100-hours-and-shouldn't-have-to-wait-6-weeks." attitude)

Hey Freightdoggie! How about being on call 24/7 to mow my lawn. I'll pay you 60K a year, but you'll have to come over in 30 minutes, and mow my lawn for ten hours with no more than 14 hours of duty. (You can watch TV in my lounge between mowing assignments.) Oh, and by the way, my lawnmower is 30 years old and poorly maintained. No steel-toed boots or earplugs or protective eyeware. (Providing you with this safety equipment might impact my bottom line, and besides we all know: "It's just a 135 operation.") [That'll be my excuse for anything having to do with safety] Of course you'll be well paid to risk your life and certificate. Substandard benefits too. (You can use that big paycheck to take care of all those pesky details.)

Interested? Oh wait, I see you already have a position.

My mower time is all local, I've never actually taken off, mowed, and then parked it in my neighbor's shed. Anybody have any idea how I can get some cross country mowing time?

I have been waiting for 6 weeks too, trying to be patient. Class dates are already through Feb. and xmas is upon us which is slowing the process! Be patient and I'll see you at the interview!

That kind of crap ended a long time ago with any larger operation like XJT. Maybe you'll find some racist a$$hole at some Part 135 op with 2 planes in the middle of BFE, but this racist crap does not exist at any Part 121 op.

The same goes for people that think they're not getting jobs because all the minorities and women are stealing them at 300hrs TT. It just ain't happening these days.

Hey, They are really backed up with interviews..so just be patience.

I totally agree with VIK.
I have an ethnic name and I still was able to pick and choose the airline of my choice.

Don’t make excuses for your lack of experience.

Dont know about the 'too much time' theory, but I know someone personally who applied online and got hired with XJ with just over 600TT, 125MT and the whole process from applying to interview took two weeks, with a class date in three.

From what I understand they are not doing anymore phone calls until the 2nd week in January. Then they will start again.
