Just curious. Let's say someone starts as a newhire at NJA this month. How long before that person (NJA) could conceivably bid a FO seat on a GIVSP if that person were so inclined? 3 years? 5 years? Any estimates? What about bidding a G450 FO seat vs. a GIVSP FO seat?

Other related questions: how long would the seat lock be on the GIVSP/GV if one were available? Does the G-Whiz fleet only offer 7/7 schedule?

As of today you would need two years at NJA before you can go over and fly the GIV. Then you would need to be on the GIV for 2 years before you can bid for a GV/G550/G450 seat. That may change in the future but as of today that is how it is set up.

I am almost at the two year point at NJA and have about 50 guys senior to me that have a bid in for the GIV. In my opinion, a person getting hired today would probably be close enough to upgrade in the Encore+, Beechjet or maybe the XL by the time those new orders show up in 2012, and choose to upgrade. This might be very good for people that get hired in 2009/2010. Again that is just my opinion.

2 years at NJA before you can bid the G's
3 years at FO seatlock before moving out of the classic
5 year company lock.

So you have to decide will after two years at NJA will you be able to upgrade in the next 5 years. Because you will G whiz locked for 5 years before you can bid a captain slot at NJA.

I have a buddy who just started at NJA and that's why I asked the question. I have read that some newhires who started on some of the smaller aircraft types have bid FO slots on larger NJA airplanes (e.g., Citation X or G200). Do those airplanes also require multi-year seat locks similar to those for the G-Whiz? Does the G-fleet only offer 7/7?

If hired before December of '07 they had only a two year seat lock and could bid into any other FO (except the NJI Gs) without being locked out of an upgrade in a different fleet. They are seat locked in the new aircraft for 39 months unless they upgrade in something else which requires 39 months to be added to however many of the original 39 months for the FO change they had left- potentially 6+ years locked as CA in your first upgrade aircraft. I'm staying where I am (Excel) until I upgrade since I don't know what it will be in (1st available) and I don't want a super long seat lock in an airplane I probably won't want to spend more than 39 months in if possible.

Currently the NJI flying is all 7 and 7.

The way I hear it, the NJA guy's can only fly on the G-IV's, as of now or until something changes. (ie:
a merge) so it looks like a long time before anyone from NJA will be on the V's or any 50 series aircraft.
Also the way it looks now it's going to take an F/O at least 10 to 15 yr's to upgrade as a capt. at NJI, if they hang in and wait. Much easier to stay on the A side and get paid as a capt when the time comes!!!
Just something to chew on and ponder. I hear it's a great place to work, BUT does anyone really want to wait that long to fly a G????

nobody in their right mind would. :)

Exactly.;)
