The website says along with the time requirements all candidates for hire must be 23. I was told by someone thats because they want everybody to be able to upgrade on the 170 asap? that sounds pretty thin. are they really turning ppl down that are younger than that? by the time i'm no longer under contract at my current employer, i will be around 2400TT/1400Multi, but still 6 months shy of my 23rd b-day. any takers?

thats kinda the same impression were getting at the company...i may be wrong but i believe youd get hired into the 145 if you werent 23..then when you went to upgrade depending on your standing bid youd go to the 170...hope that helps....

Maybe it's just me, but doesn't CHQ have to follow seniority order before the newer guys upgrade??? I'm sure there's a whole pile of senior 145 FO's who'll jump at the chance to upgrade into the 170....

how much horing are you guys doing into the 145? i don't keep on it, but my impression was that the hirng was mostly for the 170 and the 145 was more just attrition.

The reason you have to be 23 is because the company uses Level C 170 simulators. 121 regs require part of the check ride to be in aircraft if you do not meet ATP qualifications, including age. The company does not do 'in aircraft' training; therefore, you must meet ATP minimums before you can go to the 170. You would go to the 145 just as I did, because of your age. However, the sims just need a sign off to be Level D, which could occur any day- if that were the case, you could get hired into the 170. As for the Shuttle, Republic, and Chautauqua, we are all under one master seniority list.

Most 145 hiring is for natural attrition and guys going to the 170. However, if we attain flying for CAL, the story might be different.
