I can see it now! The over 60 guys will be allowed to fly as IRO's as long as they can hold a medical. I'm sure the SCABS will jump on this like a fly on a dead pig in the sun!

OOPS! I meant 65. I'm still in shock over getting @#$% in the A55 on this whole deal.

That's about 5,400 per year .....

Including all carriers, from biggest major to smallest regional, that's pretty paltry.

it really is... there are that many new nursing jobs a month in the US economy.
 
When they goto single cockpit "crew" that will fix the shortage.
 
In 1989 the Dean of our Aviation department told a room full of freshly minted flight instructors (I included) that there will be a looming pilot shortage when the Veitnam era pilots retire.

Now it looks like it is finally here just in time for runaway inflation and the eventual collapse of the dollar.

I should have been a $^**%# plummer...
