Excellent work! If they don't give it to you, shop around for an aircraft to instruct out of and inform your students that you're leaving for across the field. If only three of them follow you, you'll be well ahead. Good work, looks like you're doing something right, for sure.

If you're experienced, classy, or specialized, the range is $50 to $100 per hour. Specialized and experienced? I've seen CFIs charging and getting $250 an hour (C414, C421, BE20, hush-hush stuff).

$224 is what you should be getting in a morning.

I didn't realize I was such a bottom feeder only charging $100/hr.:rolleyes::)
 
If you teach in light jets, the going rate around here is a flat $500 per day. You only end up in the airplane a couple of hours, plus a couple of hours preflighting, learning the FMS, etc. So, 5 hours for $500...not too bad.

If you are a professional, charge like a professional. When I do teach, I don't charge less than 40. an hour.
 
ok, it would be nice to instruct in jets.....it would be nice to have ever flown one....but i instruct in things between 125 and 230 ponies and have only given just over 300 dual. so what's a good rate for that?

Jon,

You can look at it one way or the other. Some would measure your experience by hours flown or by recomendations. It sounds to me like you've got a pretty good thing going wherever you are, so despite your low dual-given hours (yeah, it's pretty low), you should be charging the local rate plus $5-$15. It truly is a supply/demand equation. If you're keeping really busy, you might bump your rates up by $5 or $10 dollars. If you're employed by a flight school and go independant, this could equate to a 50-100% raise. So, if you're in an area that has an average rate that FBOs in the area are charging of $30/hr... as an independent CFI, you should be charging $35-$50/hr. $35 if you're not too busy, and $50 if you're really busy. Make sense?

Give yourself at least a $5/hr raise every 500 hours dual-given you've got. Also consider starting a website with lesson plans and other good information on it... if you're internet savvy.
