I worked in California and stayed super-busy at $40/hr for primary and $45 for advanced flight instruction. Then, on the side, I flew a v-tail Bonanza for a doctor at $350/day, long or short. There were several times I nearly had a $1000 day! There were several of us who would compete for that title. If you're a horrible flight instructor and you paid nothing for your ratings, charge $7/hr... It's the minimum wage. If you paid for your ratings, and you're still horrible, charge $15/hr. If you're decient, you're WORTH no less than $25. If you're good at what you do and you have some experience to back it up, you should be charging $30-35/hr. If you're an experienced flight instructor, efficient, and classy, your range is from $35-50/hr.
If you're booked at 8:00 with the guy, have a plan (ie. lesson plan), get down to business, use every minute to teach, and charge from 8:00 until you shake his hand good-bye. Don't milk the student, but don't give the milk away for free.
Good luck,
Shy
