I am also an Aussie working in the U.S. and 99% of the people here are great. Don't let a few morons like Staylow dissuade you. You only have to look at his spelling to get an idea of his intelligence level. Americans as a whole are very friendly and welcoming.
Now is a horrible time to try to find a job in the aviation industry so it is understandable that there will be some negativity directed at foreign nationals trying to gain employment here. It's similar to Australia in the early 90s after the strike when we had so many Americans and others flying in Australia, "stealing our jobs AND our women!!!"
 
That's the second time I've been accused of stealing american women!!

I've been told it has something to do with the way aussies dance ;).

I can't wait to come over. Hard times I know but an adventure all the same.
