2002 had a fair amount of pilot hiring at the regional level. My question to everybody is what will 2003 bring? I know the majors will be still be stagnant but, will the regionals slow down,
pick up or remain the same as this year?

CITRUS

Check out airtran if they go through with boeing next year on there plane order, they will give south west a run for the money.

Nobody can give Southwest a run for their money for any length of time. All that try have failed. The good news is that when they try to compete on the same level as SWA they will spoil people to the service and low fares (relative), which will help SWA with more market share if/when they go out of business or go out of the same market. I just don't think it can be done successfully. But I am biased.

Pilot Hiring

I would expect it to remain about like this year for several reasons.

Regional and fractional hiring has remained fairly strong while major carriers cut with the exception of Southwest andAirTran.

We had the demise of several carriers. National and Vanguard.

A slowly improving economy should keep things consistant through next year even if regionals slow their expansion.

It looks like real recovery may still be a year away.

I have faith there'll be at least one hired - ME!!!!

Atis Whiskey, better watch that name. My brother at United told me about a passenger who went up to the flight deck and said "hey, I know you guys were drinking up here because I heard it on the radio!" He was on one of the planes that let's the pax listen to the pilot conversations and heard the crew say "we have whiskey." Didn't help that he was a real a$$ about it.

World's full of 'em, I guess...:D
