The 1900 and metro are single pilot aircraft. Even with 9 seats. However, most become a 2 pilot aircraft as soon as one seat is occopied since most of these aircraft don't have an autopilot (autopilot in lieu of SIC rules apply here). If there is an autopilot, that specific aircraft needs to have authorization in the OPS-Specs to use it without the SIC.
What makes the metro difficult to fly single pilot is that it is a relative unstable aircraft. You trim it, let go of the controls and very soon it will start to oscilate in pitch and it will roll. It is also very heavy on the controls. Circuit breakers on the f/o side are very hard to reach.
