My office overlooks DFW airport. I've seen the ARFF fire truck salute already 3-times this morning. I hope the ARFF guys topped off the diesel and the water tanks, they will be plenty busy...

The baton/corncob has been handed down, it is without any doubt that you will use that corncob liberally and most likely wrap it with barbed wire before you jam it into the #2 orifice of the next generation of pilots, it is the way of the airline pilot!
Ya all are pathetic, enjoy your bitter fruit, and no I am nowhere near 55 or much less 65, I still have a career left in this industry, and for that I am sad.

anyone else see the irony in the timing of that Lear that crashed in Mexico being captained by a 78 year old?

Yes, we noticed. And it's why I believe there should be a limit for ALL compensated flying or no limit at all (you can guess which I would prefer).

Why is it unsafe for a guy to fly a 737 for an airline the day after he turns 65 but it's perfectly safe for him to walk across the street the next day and fly a BBJ around the planet until he can't hold a medical, finally quits, or croaks?

Either it is safe at any age or it's unsafe beyond 65. Pick one....

Do we have to pick one of those two options? I'd prefer to pick option #3: that it's unsafe beyond age 60.

OF course as long as "THE CANDY MAN, THE EASTER BUNNY and SANTA CLAUS are giving the medicals, they will continue to fly...WE ALL KNOW plenty of guys that shouldn't have a medical.

Later,
KBB

AND WE HAD ONE GOING OUT YESTERDAY AT SW, his birthday was today.

all a lot of them are in their 50's

Point taken. But that horse is out of the barn, across the highway, and running and calling "Wild Fire" (sorry, classic music reference there).

We can't fix the number but we CAN fix the scope of the regulation.
