Hey Capt. Megadeth,

Hope you can breath during your approaches in the bus... ;)
As for the 757...Awesome airplane to fly!!! Stress over the future changes on a daily basis on the "catcher" side of the possible merger also. Hope for the best, plan for the worst...

This is not the first possible merger situation that has happened at AWA. Back in the late 1990's there was some heavy courting of AWA by UAL, prior to them getting into it with USAir. At the time, there was a great deal of stress on the crews and office people. At the time, I was thankful that I was a crew member instead of an office person, as double management would have been eliminated. In the end, Bill Franke decided NOT to go with the merger and thank goodness he did not. (believe me, at the time many of us thought he was an idiot)

It is anyone's guess as to what will happen with the integration of seniority lists. It all depends on what assets are acquired. AWA has always been understaffed, so those getting on with AWA, I would not worry too much about being furloughed because of it.

I hope that everyone retains a job if this happens. But the fact is, no one can control what management does; in any company.

Good luck to everyone involved in this situation.

905tw, I'm on line now and trust me, the stress level isn't any better, I'm worried too at the thought that ANYTHING can happen with this ATA thing.

JetMonkey,

I think we'll be alright. I just read the AFA MEC's update and they have been meeting with ATA and their FA union. They have also been meeting with Doug Parker and some of ATA's management.

From their update it said that Parker would run the two airlines separately for at least the first year or two. He also added that they may add Hawaii flying from our hubs earlier than planned.

With this I think our jobs would be safe - at least for the next year or two.
New hires would still be needed just for our operation alone.

I'm in the minority that think these "merger" will be a good thing long term for our company and our careers.

But what do I know?

calls are going out this afternoon.

TK called with the official confirmation a little while ago. Dec 20th, all airbus slots is what she's showing (subject to change of course). 12 people. A guy I interviewed with called me like 10 min later saying he got the call too.

UAL -- you got it right. Anyone who starts on 12/20 can jumpseat home if class is out on Wednesday the 22nd or Thursday the 23rd. Your family jump privileges don’t kick in until the 15/16 day point. Obviously commuting on the 23rd and then returning to PHX on the 26th to start class again on the 27th will be very tough. Mainline AW and on the Express, you can sit up front, but with everyone else you’ll be hoping for a seat in the back. Tough at holiday time. At the Express, Mesa dudes have priority over you for the jump, so if your market has 75% Express and 25% Mainline, might be harder. Expect that line pilots will be traveling up front more because more seats are filled in back. To actually see the AW loads (to plan commuting on AW/Express), you’ll need access to AWA Compass (internal company web site) which requires your employee payroll number. Different from the P # you will be assigned. You guys will have to get with payroll on day one to get that number if they have it – min manning at holiday time? For the rest of us, you didn’t get your payroll number until you got your first 2 week paycheck (employee number on the pay statement). If you don’t get access to Compass in time, you have to depend on the 1800 number, another airline’s list number, on another AWA member’s Compass access. Welcome aboard.

No words from the training center this week on merger issues. Relax and know there is nothing you can do. Jet Monkey is a voice of reason among new FOs on this board and he's got a pretty good take on it. TWADude is also a steady contributor of fairness and equity on the hangar and he also is one to look to for "balanced" info on the merger. I’m not a regular cruiser of the ALPA web site, but as you can image, lots of “emotion” with respects to Staple/Fair Integration – out of your hands (mine too!) J

called TK today and got the info on my class date as well.

They had me down for January 4th class. She also told me she had everything else she needed (background, drug test etc..) so this would now be considered the official notice. This is the next class after the 12/20 class and starts on a tuesday due to the holiday . It is also a big class (for AWA). currently scheduled for 16 new hires.

I got a little impatient and made the call myself. I probably would have been called with the official word in a week or two. (I interviewed on 10-25,26)
P.M. me with questions. see yall in PHX!

Well, I don't get the butterflies in my stomach anymore when I see the airport in the ND 320 miles away. ;)

I interviewed on the 21st and haven't heard a thing. I am thinking the Jan 4th class. Anybody who interviewed on or after the 21st have an official word yet??

I interviewed on the 21st as well, but haven't heard anything either. Keeping my fingers crossed!! Can't wait to start.

CubFan,
I was the navy guy with you on the 21-22 class. Tammy told me the 21-22 guys would be separated by age and distributed into classes accordingly. I am 32 and am in the 12/20 class (official now). She let me know I was on the bubble a couple weeks ago. If you are younger than 32 I would say that might be the issue. If you are older I would suggest a call. Feel free to PM me with your number and I can call to clarify but I am pretty sure that is it. Have I talked about the Beavers yet this post? The ones on the football field that is.

Beav Guy,

That makes sense, I'm with you on 12/20 and I've got almost a decade on you. I also interviewed 10/21. I can't believe my gray hairs are actually paying dividends. See you soon!
