Ok, so I am filling out this application for an upcoming interview, and it wants my ten year history as usual. My employment history only will go back for about 5 years anyway, and my aviation jobs for 3. Do they really want to know about my summer jobs in high school and college since they were temp anyway???

Once you hit your school days list your employer as your high school. Include the address and phone number.

I cannot stress this enough: LIST ALL YOU FORMER EMPLOYERS! Some companies want this information - even the summer and holiday jobs, or temporary and consulting work you may have done. Do you really want to find out, two weeks into indoc that they wanted this information? Some companies are not forgiving about this matter. They will simply send you home. LIST ALL YOUR FORMER EMPLOYERS!!!

This is nonsense. The purpose of the 10 year background check is to verify that you haven't been in jail. You just have to account for yourself and absences of employment/school longer than 30 days get noticed. If you were unemployed and not going to school for a long period than you have to write an account about what you were doing and usually it helps if you can have someone verify where you were. Other than that just put down school for your school years. You don't have to put every single weekend job you had during high school.

If you were in high school or college and had a part time job on the side, I would just list the school..... They can't find out unless you gave them a W2. If you had a part time flying job in high school, that's different... obviously you would list that. (They could find that from your logbook) But for waiter jobs.... why bother?

Put it all in, including the six weeks spent cleaning chinchilla cages during the weekends or whatever. My first ten year check went through elementary school - with 3 months off and the school under a mountain of coal, the airline had to have a non-relative verify the summer vacation. Report cards verified the school attendance.

What you don't want is to need a security clearance down the road at that airline and to have to document things you didn't document previously. "Non-full" disclosure will get you terminated at Delta, SkyWest, and AA/Eagle. YMMV.

When I applied to Wisconsin, I was told to put down everything. (I had the same questions and probably twice as many jobs) I had to xerox the form about ten times to fit everything in. Needless to say I was a little embarrassed when everyone else fit it all on one page. I still got hired though... suckers.
