Whate are the odds of a new-hire getting the 737? Also, any plans on taking delivery of the -800.

I see that AT are actively hiring (according to climbto350 & their own website). Just wondering if it's worth my while submitting a resume even if I don't have the "required" 121 PIC or military equiv of 500 hours. I DO have 1400+ PIC but not 121 and I also have 6000+ SIC on THREE types of jets on which I'm type rated. Plus I am rated on B737NGs with time on type. Clearly, on paper, these should more than compensate any perceived deficiency in 121 PIC time.
Also, I don't know anyone at AirTran, so don't want to waste my time nor theirs if the only in is via a LOR. Just looking for some honest answers as I have played the game more times than I care to remember. Thanks in advance

You are MORE than qualified to fly for AirTran.... (or any airline for that matter)..... however..... as far as I have seen.... and as far as I know..... AirTran will only consider you for Pilot employment if you have 121 PIC time or Military time.

I am hoping that this changes..... soon..... because there are plenty of good people that this bias eliminates from the selection process ..... and this self imposed bias creates a limitation, and in the process increases the potential for hiring the wrong person.

Thanks for your reply. I am more than familiar with some airlines policy of "rated, but not related" and is EXACTLY why I posed the original question and why I'm flying the EXACT same airplane for an overseas carrier.
So much for "we are an equal opportunity employer" and you are RIGHT on the button with your comments. Thanks for saving me a lot of time, energy & frustration......

Just my opinion, but I don't think we'll get them any time soon, '06 maybe. They pay 13% more and I know mgt is asking for that in negotiations, which tells me they'd like to order a few. Eventually we'll probably get a few for the heavy loads out of LGA/MCO/DFW etc.

As for getting the 737 as a newhire, I'd say your chances are excellent.

My new hire class of nearly 25, 4 received the 737. Their training seemed a bit shorter for some reason.
I know it varies every class but even if you get the 717, you'll enjoy yourself...except for that d-mned FMS!

There should be quite a bit more 737 FO slots in the second half of the year- probably need 12 a month to cover new aircraft deliveries.

Funny, that's what I say about the Smiths FMC on the 73NG. Give me the Honeywell.
