They'll issue you a david clark headset if you go T-1's. But you'll still hang on to your helmet if you go KC-135's, and I think the same for C-130 and C-17's. Although you'll rarely wear it. Side note: A few of us here in pacific-land just got issued the Bose $995.00 ANR headset to test... -

Like JayDub said, it depends on a lot of things as far as how long it will take to upgrade. FACT: PACAF requires 1000 hours total time (including stud hours) and AMC requires 800 before sending you off to Altus. Not sure about USAFE or reserve/guard. Now, how you get the required hours is a... -

The T-1 wasn't all that successful being off the shelf. They found a HUGE gear problem that grounded the fleet for better than a month (rainman, you'll remember that). They found that the gear was good for a cycle or two every hour, not the 10 or so cycles that we were putting it though... -

More about logging time at UPT
I've read that you can log your flying time at UPT in a civilian logbook if you are AMEL rated. But since you're flying a turbine engine, wouldn't you need a type certificate for the aircraft as well?
