Mike sometimes its best to just go do your job and quit trying to justify your choice. If you're in the top 140 you'll be OK...maybe. If you're an FO, well I don't have a crystal ball but I believe your chances for upgrade are non-existant!

VA has 24 registered(that I could verify) airframes. The plan(before recent problems with investors portfolios losing half their value) was to have 30 planes and 10 city pairs.
If you came on board today would six more airframes give you room to upgrade within a year..two years..ever...
