    Southwest pilots,

Thanks for all the kind words. While we are certainly lucky that there weren't more injuries and fatalities, I still keep coming back to how tragic it must be for that family to lose a child. My prayers are with them. All the more so this time, I've flown that flight three times in the last...

    SWA New Work Rules?

I think most of the "loopholes" you are referring to are simply incentives to get people to work on their days off. The company has agreed that reserves exist to put out fires, not to be used to cover flying that slips through DOT and EF. That's why they agreed to let anyone take a reserve's...

More fuel savings in the future

I doubt the side letter will change things too much, maybe a class or two will be delayed but until we run the tests no one really knows how much productivity will be affected. The test period ends in August anyway. The new contract is another story, the company has stated many times that they...

Any C-130 guys bumming right now?

Could be worse, in the Navy herc world we still haven't gotten ANY aftp's or rmp's this FY. The medivac missions I've done have been on single day AT orders. If they don't start coming up with some money for drills they're going to be running our reserve squadron without any reservists. :-(

    Question for Southwest pilot

Any expansion at DEN, like PHL, will mostly depend on our ability to get more gates. I read somewhere that the gate situation there is pretty tight so time will tell. More gates = more flights.

    Where to live in MD?

As others have said if you are moving to MD to save on taxes you may want to reconsider, as you'll be moving again after you see your taxes here. It's also gotten rediculously expensive to buy a place almost anywhere in MD. Most of the pilots I know who've bought in the last few years have gone...

To all you old "Majors" board guys and gals:

I thought the same thing. Flightinfo helped me tremendously during my job search and then helped me keep my sanity during my extended time in the pool, now I still read it several times a week. Sending a check is the least I could do...

    King County rejects proposals

Seattle Times link I'm not too surprised, I don't think the field could handle more than one carrier. I don't see any way they could let just one carrier in without giving the others a chance.

Navy Pilots Who Rescued Victims Are Reprimanded

Sounds to me like you showed the initiative and decision making skills that any good HAC should have. You made the right call. Nice job. T1

    SWA Hou Based

At my seniority it's- DAL MCO PHX, OAK, HOU, BWI all within 3% of each other MDW but it seems like the new hires still mostly go to OAK. The seniority varies tremendously depending on where you are on the list and where we're growing/shrinking.

    New Orleans... very sad

What's their justification? Don't tell me they're waiting for some official request paperwork to go through... Sometimes you've gotta do what you've gotta do, and just deal with the consequences later. Thanks for helping those that are in need.

    Should I move to BWI?

Try this thread, very little has changed... http://forums.flightinfo.com/showthread.php?t=34228 She was asking about the suburbs, which are pretty much the same as suburbs anywhere else in the country- just more expensive. As long as you stay out of the hood it's not an issue (from someone...

No, we do academics/sims in Tampa at CAE and fly locally.

    SWA reports $159M profit for 2nd Q

Guess you missed these lines from today's news release- 2Q 2005 2Q 2004 Salaries, wages, and benefits 667 622 7.2 % Size of fleet at period-end 434 405 7.2 % The payroll grew at the same rate as the...

    SWA LF's continue slump

Lowecur, When I saw the news release this morning with the load factor drop, my first thought was "I wonder how long it will take Lowecur to post some comment about how the other LCC's are beating us on market share?" The answer, apparently, was about 30 minutes. Don't look now but you're...

    SWA and Reserve

MOT, DOT, and EF may or may not have rigs depending on how the pairing was generated. Original lines, VJA, and JA always have the rigs. There is no such thing as 1.5 times the rig. For VJA and JA you get either 1.5 times whatever the straight trip pay is or the normal rigs (6.5, 5, .74, etc.)...

    Fate is the Hunter

You obviously have no idea just how many aircraft used to crash "back then." Flying of any kind used to be a very dangerous proposition. If you think Gann was full of BS, I guess de Saint Expuery's books must have been complete fabrications. After all, how many crashes can a guy survive?

    SWA First Year Pay?

I agree with Fate's Pawn on this one. First year guys giving away their trips aren't that different from lance captains. I'm flying a turn today that a lance gave away, but if this turn hadn't been available most likely I'd be staying home. The company got me to fly when I was going to stay home...
