Great, fantatastic. Excellent job there boys, you've spent 10 billion in 4 years, and suceeded in ending up right back where you started. By all accounts, that is truly an amazing achivement.
We should all gather around and send our praises to the wonderful management team that planned...

The 335d is actually a 3.0 litre engine, not 3.5. They also make a 330d, which develops around 245hp with a single turbo. The 335d is the same engine, but with twin-turbos.
BMW is making a 123d, same 2.0 litre as in my 320d, but developing 203hp. That's more than 100 hp per...

VW produces a 3-cylinder Polo Bluemotion. It's an oilburner, and it'll return around 70-80 mpg. My BMW is officially a 57mpg car. The 204 bhp, 6-cylinder, 325d is a 48mpg car. I drove one, and you would be hard pressed to tell it's a diesel. You can even get a 286bhp twin-turbo 335d...
Strange, really, how Ford and GM build really shyte cars in the US, and loosing billions in the process, whereas their European arms (Ford and Opel) are building rather nice motors and turning a profit.
Case(s) in point: The Ford Focus is one of the best choices of motor in the C (VW Golf)...
Haven't heard about ASTAR 300s going to the ME, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen though. Don't get your hopes up for a nice stint in the sandpit though - they'd need to put them on Saudi register for traffic rights and insurance purposes. You'd then have to apply for a job with DHL...
You may be right, Bob. Suffice to say that the rumours this side of the atlantic talk about the UPS deal being dead.
As for the investment, it may have been written off, but as a loss; DHL still holds a large amount of equity in ASTAR - worthless or not.
To answer an earlier question, international shipments to/from the US are carried by a number of carriers. Trans-atlantic is done by Lufthansa Cargo, World Airways and (to small extent) Kalitta. Trans-pac is done by NWA Cargo and Polar - with the NWA contract set to terminate in the near future...
Apparently we're due some kind of announcement on or around the 11th of November, supposedly relating to the ongoing discussions with UPS. It could be nothing but a "negotiations are ongoing" piece of bla bla, but the rumour mill is telling me it'll be something more substantial.
I haven't...
Latest rumours from this side of the pond is that the DHL/UPS deal is dead, with DHL to retreat back to CVG, dump ABX and have the flying done by ASTAR only. Further to that, ASTAR to re-fleet with 757 and 767-200SF's, aiming for a fleet around +/- 40 aircraft, serving the North American (incl...
Pretty it certainly ain't, but oh my is it ever so comfortable to passenger on! Had the pleasure of flying SIN-LHR last week on it - I've never been on anything so quite and comfortable. Even the A340 pales in comparison!
ABX might have survived in a better condition had they not been sold to DHL. On the other hand, they might also have been driven into the ground by FedEx and UPS. In either case, nobody put a gun to the shareholders and board of ABX and forced to sell the company.
The previous owners of ABX...
First of all, I wish both TNT and UPS the best of luck integrating; both are essentially trucking companies with an airline attached. TNT is very weak in the US, and UPS are likewise weak in Europe. Furthermore, operating night flights out of CGN does not sit well with the Germans, and curfews...
That's not exacly right, and you know it. Even if it was, you're looking at the US express market only, which represents less than 10% of DPWN turn-over. As such, the board could be quite right in only allocating 10% of its time and resources to that market.
Far from sitting on their backends...
Except for one little detail. Well, two actually. Maersk is not for sale, won't be up for sale and have no intention of selling. Why should they? It's the biggest container liner in the world, and reguarly show annual profits on the sunny side of EUR 2 Billion. That's one detail. The other, far...
Loved the bit about hiring consultants. Was in corporate HQ in Bonn last week, surrounded by oxygen thieving consultants.
Was sent on a "Finance for Decision Makers" course, run by a Dutchman who took no prisoners. My oh my, what nuggets he distributed!
Anyway, on the subject of...
Perfect season to see Greece. Best advice I can offer is to potter over to Piraeus and catch a slowboat to the first island that takes your fancy. If you've got a bit more cash to burn, there's a airline what operates twotters on floats that'll also get you to the islands. In either case, go to...
Don't know if this is the best of the many thread running, but here goes.
First off, I must confess to have had that naughty feeling in the stomach called "schadenfreude" in German. Don't know what the word is in English, but belive the term is rather universal. Those of you who's been...
No idea TWA but suspect some Bonn bean-counter has had the big calculator out and come to the conclusion it'll be cheaper to pay the state of Ohio than keep ILN open. The bottom line is King, and sometimes it really, really sucks. Worst of all, bean-counter plans have this horrible habit of...
