CHICAGO AREA

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide pilot services to the aircraft’s owner(s). Reporting directly to the Aircraft Manager, this position performs their duties ensuring that the aircraft and its staff meet and maintain DOT and FAA regulations.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Maintains good working relationships with Aircraft Manager and other Flight Operation and scheduling personnel.

• Responsible for maintaining availability.

• Assists in performing, coordinating or designating flight and record keeping activities.

• Ensures aircraft is ready and stocked prior to all trips.

• Performs job exercising responsible expense control including, but not limited to, road fuel, all travel and other operating expenses.

• Maintains and ensures that record keeping is complete, accurate and timely. Submits pilot duty logs monthly as due.

• Consistently performs all crew duties and activities.
REQUIREMENTS

• A current type rating and PIC qualified with a minimum of 3,000 total flight hours required.

• Previous experience in Part 91, 121, or 135 environments required.

• Must hold an ATP and 1st class medical.

• Must possess leadership qualities (such as a sense of fairness, desire and ability to promote teamwork, ability to mentor and develop staff, sense of humor, conflict resolution skills and the desire and ability to create and maintain positive working relationships).

• Excellent problem-solving and judgment capabilities.

• Must have a high energy level, a sense of urgency and the ability to deliver superior customer service.

• Must have proper command of the English language, possessing excellent written and verbal communication.

• Willingness to learn and adapt to new responsibilities.

I'm guessing he was being sarcastic. What other environments are there (disregarding the 125 and 129 carriers that most of us don't know jack about)?

Haven't they been advertising for this one for a while now? At first, I thought it required a type in the Excel. No exceptions. Now they're willing to type the "right person".

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they can't find the "right person". Maybe I'm an idiot (strong possibility). :confused:

No Brett, you're as right as your wrister from the high slot. This job has been posted since before I soloed, don't know why they can't fill it. Kinda pathetic really....sounds like they are almost pleading.
 
Pay is between 50K and 60K depending on experience and your ability to sell yourself

I don't have the NBAA numbers in front of me, but for a Chicago based operation, that's pretty low pay for a Captain on an Excel.

Is there a way could you find the NBAA numbers? This salary figure isnt set in stone and is a starting point. Pay will be based on experience and can move up quickly.

The reason it has taken a while is our insurance set high minimums and we had to get them to lower them to find more qualified people. And a type was and is not required, it is just preferred.

I don't have the numbers handy, but I know Falcon Captain (moderator) will often provide the quote applicable to the a/c size and region.

Just taking a WAG, I'd say a descent salary on an Excel in the Chicago area would be high 70's, low 80's. I was paid in that ballpark out here in SoCal, and I'd imagine the Chicago area would be on par with that. Sounds like the rest of your QOL benefits are good.

According to the 2003 NBAA #'s, the Median (50 percentile) for light jet (under 20,00lbs) is 70K. This is base pay for a captain (doesn't include bennies or perks) and covers the whole country. I don't know how to get the regional breakdown like Falc Cap.

The 2004 AvCrew survey has info specifically for the 560XL. Again this covers all regions.
High was 87K.

Average was 64.4K but that's because some genius worked for 40K and brought the #'s down.

The pay for Chicago should be on the high side of those #'s.

Average: $67,101
Median: $73,433
Low: $29,000 (WTF???)
High: $90,000


If you take those same numbers and add about 3% per year to them, you come up with derived 2005 numbers that are shown below, I would use the below numbers:

Base Salary
Average: $71,188
Median: $77,905
Low: $30,766 (WTF???)
High: $95,481
 
Were is the ad posted and what part of the Chicago area is the job? I know a local pilot who is interviewing in Waukgean.
 
If this is the position for an Excel operating under DB Aviations' 135 certificate, I would advise all of you to steer way clear of this one. There are more BS problems up there than you could imagine. And the pay sucks for the hours you'd put in.

No. I just cannot stand to see OUR profession brought down by operators that take advantage of this. Especially one in the Chicago area where there are a lot of pilots looking for unemployment.
 
I guess its a good thing you have a job and dont have to worry about this then, and hope for your sake you never have to.

If I just worried about number 1 then I would just be another A-Hole. The thing is, I love this career it sickens me to see how others are treated in this dog-eat-dog world.

It is attitudes like mine that do help our industry. I am the one that fights for our flight departments salary. I am the one that must research what our pay should be.
