Unfortunate for the regional industry, the big boys hold all the cards. Let's face it, regional pilots are a massive thorn in the side to guys who fly for the majors. You don't think they would like to see the regional sector shrink and shrivel away? As some see all of these contract vote downs as a cry for victory, it also could be the start of some bad times ahead for the regional industry as a whole. Something to think about...

Sure like shifting that flying over to the major partners. Could be short-term pain, for long-term rewards. The cold war wasn't won in a day. It took a while. There were setbacks and victories big and small. In the end, we prevailed.

Oh you bet, the majors want all the flying the regional's do....There is a reason why regional's exist, and it is because the majors in the grand scheme of things have bigger fish to fry.

I never claimed they do, or will. The regionals will probably shrink, because the network carriers wont be able to service smaller markets. It's just a point of professionals not giving away their services for free.

Oh I understand completely where you are coming from. The system is way beyond messed up, and will continue to be that way. Massive shrinkage will happen sooner than later.

this is great, but where do you go from here? 3-4 more years of flying on the contract you currently have? The fact that the teamsters signed off on this TA is going to show the NMB that management is "negotiating". So more status quo for how many more years?

That's a great question, wish I knew....

Watch more people departing (anyone senior with experience will leave to the majors or LCCs instead of hanging around) and fewer people attending new classes.

There are regional lifers out there, believe me. But where does this leave the airline if they cant staff it...Was this a burn the place down vote?

That's the point of all this. Less regionals more mainline.

It's very simple:
Step 1 = vote no
Step 2 = ????
Step 3 = profit

regionals the thorn in the side of mainline pilots? wow, the year 2005 wants its argument back.

it was those mainline pilots who caved on scope to allow the regionals to triple in size in the past 10 yrs. It's regionals measely salaries that directly subsidize those at mainline.

If anything those stuck at regionals should be the ones feeling the thorns. It'd be a lot easier to get to a major if the majors still actually did their own -effing flying!

Why would that be a bad thing?
