I have several friends at Qatar and that article is most certainly true. Terrible place with a tyrant at the helm. Hopefully when the truth comes out it will slow down Qatar's expansion. But I don't think the world government's will give two sh#ts. Since when has human rights, fair play, or just plain decency ever trumped money???

General the Middle East companies are rife with problems. But that doesn't mean they won't damage the prospects of first world airlines if something isn't done quickly. I know you like to go on and on about them being unable to connect out of Europe or Asia to NA and that they will have to buy Antonovs, etc. Kind of reminds me of Delta pilots 20 years ago claiming that RJ's won't matter or SWA will never be a serious threat. We all know how that worked out.

Yeah, every bad media story coming out if the ME must be untrue! What about the Aussie lady getting raped and then she AND her 3 offenders all were thrown in jail? Was that untrue? Guess what SS? It's just not the same, especially if you are not a local, and people considering a job out there need to have an idea of what goes on. You sure as heck won't tell them.

And I really don't want to go to the ME, and luckily I won't have to. Europe is just fine with me .

Bye Bye---General Lee

I didn't say it was untrue, I have never been to Qatar so I don't know. Nor will I childishly say, "well, i have a friend or read it on PPRUNE"

I just report the truth and facts. All I said is that Emirates is nothing like like that article. Qatar and Emirates are two different companies.

General Lee, you have never worked for Emirates nor have even visited Dubai. You are not qualified to tell people how awful a place this is to live and work. Period. Another words, YOU DON'T KNOW ********************!

8SS,

I have good friends there, including one flying the 777 and one on the 330. Both say they wake up each morning dreaming of going to DL or UAL. They had fun the first couple years, but grew tired of not being treated equally since they weren't locals. They also work really hard, and the 330 guy has had it with India turns at night, which my buddy on the 777 will soon inherit as more 330s are parked. Besides my friends, I read plenty of PPRUNE, which has both positive and negative threads about your airline, although lately it's been more negative, especially with the lack of profit sharing, and sick leave problems. Just go to the Middle East section and take a look. My 330 buddy says he had better get the 380 soon or he may just leave, he said he was exhausted doing one leg in the middle of the night somewhere in the Gulf region and back, and then an India or Pakistan turn the next night. But hey, I've never been there, thank God.....

And read the actual quote below from TP, one of your EX senior Capts...he stated that! Why?????

The funny thing General is that you tend to devolve into a "my job is better than your job debate." We could debate that for hours. If you want work rules and flexibility your job is better, if you are talking straight pay and destinations visited (or pulling cabin crew) then I would argue your job is second to EK. But who cares???? Apparently you do a great deal.

But the big issue is not who has the better job. It's what is going to be the effect of the rising ME carriers on the established NA legacies? You think it will remain how it's been and to back it up you paste your motley fool article. With 200+ 777's and 380's on order, plus the stated intention of Tim Clark to expand aggressively into the US market I think there are some serious threats on the near term horizon.

Hopefully the politicians will save US jobs but they have a downright terrible track record when it comes to protecting decent paying US industries against competitors abroad. Canada has done a great job stemming the flood of available seat miles from the ME. I don't hear anything from any of the US politicians on this matter. Between Norwegian, EK, EY, QA, and maybe Turkish things look fairly scary for the Legacies 10 years down the road.

You have friends? I stopped reading your post after the first sentence because everyone knows that is a lie.

You should have stopped reading it when he claimed to be a pilot....Let alone a DL pilot! That's what you people get for anthropomorphizing this Doosh bag!

And Scoot claims to be an INTL pilot, yet he can't remember basic procedures at the two largest "EU hubs" for the airline at CDG and AMS. Don't listen to this bonehead.

Ahahaha! You know I'm correct (again) and you resort to cheap slams. You, your airline, and your hub city all suck! Enjoy the sandpit and insomnia! How's the profit sharing going? Wut wut? Yeah, that's what I thought loser!
