Awards are what happens when your company is not sucking on the government tit.

I was beginning to wonder when the government was going to reward the airlines that did not have to mooch off them. I dont doubt the check and the government knows it wont bounce. Not always about the highest bidder.

Uhhhhh, DL was granted more than half (52%) of all slots at LGA via USAir by the Govt.... You're wrong, Again..... I just debunked your whole premise.

I guess they want to protect their investment. Hey you got the debt down from 17 billion to 12 billion. Congrats. Good to see the positive direction. Maybe some day you guys can cut the cord and go at it without help and debt relief.

Wasnt those lga slots given in 2011 and a dca swap?. Swa just got 22 lga slots in dec2013. No swaps there. All cash.

FI is like kindergarden. Lol.

First of all, here is part of an article about the DL/US slot swap:(including DL paying US $66.5 million in addition to trading slots)

Delta, US Airways announce new swap for New York and Washington Reagan National rights

Delta Air Lines and US Airways have worked out a new deal to trade landing rights and assets at New York LaGuardia and Washington Reagan National, the carriers said Monday.

Here are some particulars:

-Delta would get 132 slot pairs, i.e., pairs of takeoff and landing slots, at LaGuardia.

-US Airways would get 42 slot pairs at Reagan National

-The pair "could" divest up to 16 slot pairs at LaGuardia and eight at National to airlines with limited or no service at those airports. That would happen "if required by the regulatory authorities."

-US Airways would gain rights to add daily service to Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2015.

-Delta would pay US Airways $66.5 million.

-Delta will take over US Airways? Terminal C at LaGuardia, giving it 18 gates in that terminal. It would also add a gate at Terminal D and build a 600-foot connector between C and D.

-US Airways will keep its operations in Terminal C. The 2009 agreement would have had US Airways split its LaGuardia flights between Terminal D and the Marine Air Terminal.

Next, the debt is below $10 Billion, heading for $7.7 billion by the end of next year, down from $18 Billion in 08 I believe. Not bad. And, the Govt had to approve the slot swap, and they did.

Btw, FI may be kindergarden for guys who can't debate the issues.

Normally I would agree, but in this case I think SW actually opened the checkbook for once and brought the big numbers.

I think this will make us the second most departures out of DCA, and as stated many others are RJs.

Yup, those slots were given to the guy with the most numbers on the check. This was a very smart move by GK, DCA is a gold mine on yield, just like LGA or any slot controlled airport.

You've got to love when the government steals from one company they don't like at gunpoint, then gives it to another they do like. Democracy American Style.

Care to make a little wager on that? :)

Bubba

Why were the terms of the sale confidential ?
How come the DOJ made a public issue out if the slots at DCA in the anti trust case , but then the terms of the swap are confidential?

Boy - you guys at SWA must have some very highly paid lobbyists on K street

Metrojet

Maybe they'll start a service between DCA and a couple other big east coast cities that runs every 30 minutes during peak time and you are guaranteed a seat and you pay for your ticket once you get on.

Nah, it'd never work! :)

The new AA will blister your ass at DCA...like we did in PHL. You guys are not all that anymore. There are guys in my squadron that are leaving the corn dog and going to the legasy airlines.
