I just heard that there is a new written test format on the day of the interview, apparently some kind of essay with questions at the end. Can anyone verify this and throw some light on what this essay is and what kind of questions are being asked at the end of it. Thanks.

I believe they used to do that, maybe it's back? I would imagine they ask a question and grade you on grammar, punctuation and ability to answer in a clear and concise manner?

I wouldn't get hired if I had to write an essay :)

no more essay, its a cognitive test followed by a 3 on 1 interview panel...at least thats what im told...was an ATP written when i went through...good thing it wasnt an essay for me too

Those test weed out really great applicants....sad

Your right, however im told its only used if your on the borderline. If they love you your in, if they dont your out. The NK interview is a frat pledge and nothing more. Just stay relaxed and pretend your drinkin a cold pint with them and your good as gold.

I dunno, I was told its pretty black and white. If you get the Cog test and pass it, you get the interview, if you don't pass it,there is nothing they can do. not sure how true it is though

this is news to me, I didnt even realize the cog test was administered BEFORE the interview, but what your saying makes sense

Yup, it sucks that it's black and white.

For those interested, the process is

Apply on-line
(GO TO JOB FAIR) <----- this seems like a must to get the call, at least 98% of the time, lol
Get a link for a "long app"
get a call from HR, quick conversation then a link for the COG/PSYCH test

IF YOU PASS the COG/PSCYH test, you get an interview, if you don't pass, you get an email

So this COG test, which I am hoping to get this week, (filled out the long app last week) is it based off of the ATP written, as some have said in the past. I was digging for my 15 year old Gleim book and no longer have it. Do I need to go buy a new one? Do I need to buy that "everything explained" book? Or is it just basic math/logic questions?

I really don't want to screw this up...

It has nothing to do with flying. It's number patterns/word association then google 16pf personality test, that's what the 160 Psych test is like.

PM me, I'll give you my phone number, when you get the link for the cog test you can call me and I'll give ya the run down

Spirit pilots have their own message board. It may be helpful for those that want to work there. Spiritpilotboard.net

Took the Cog test two weeks ago and got the NO THANK YOU email. I don't know where I screwed up?

Sorry to hear. For guys taking it in the future, don't guess, if you don't know it, move on. It only grades you on ones you answer, of course I don't think you can just answer 5 easy ones, but you get the point.

The Psych test is not fun either, it asks the same question 5 different ways, you have to be consistent

I filled out the long app 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything...should I be looking for a "no thanks" email or is this normal?

Normal. Its really hard to get a call out of the blue without going to a Job Fair, you would have to have a bunch of internal recs.

Aparently that psych test isn't working.

How many questions did you get through?

I answered 55 Questions. They give you 20 minutes to answer 125 questions. The Cog test wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be, but for what ever reason I didn't get the call. I could have just failed the Personality test, or it might have been because I didn't attend the Job Fair.....Who knows?

I'll try again in 6 months!

Good luck to all that give it a try.

Has anyone who attended the ORD job fair gotten the e-mail for the long application? I was pretty much towards the end of the job fair and wondering if they might still be sorting through resumes!?

I attended the ORD job fair and received the email with the long formal application on May 23rd. Was told to expect a phone call from HR any day now, so still looking for an unfamiliar number to pop up on the phone. In the meantime just trying to dig up all I can on sample questions or practice versions online for the cognitive mental alertness test. If anyone can shed any light on this test...it'd be greatly appreciated!

Yes, me too. Got the long ap email Friday and completed it late that night. Nothing since, but hey, its only been 2 business days... FWIW, I was in the 100-150 range.

Get through as many questions as fast as possible in the time allotted. That may mean skipping questions that might bog you down. If I couldn't get an answer in a few seconds I went to the next one. I got up to question 96. This strategy worked for me and others I shared it with. It took a month to hear back after taking the test for the March 1 interview invite and now I'm wrapping up training. I went to the Jan. LAS job fair and was #77.

Did you get a call yet? I filled out the long app the day after the job fair and nothing yet. One post earlier said it was a month until he got a phone call.

Any suggestions on good ways to print out your elogbook?

Not yet. Its been just under 2 weeks. Guess patience is the key. I was expecting everything to happen very fast, but I guess not. I had been told it was a quick process. Maybe they have a lot to get through, or maybe they didn't like my long app. Who knows.

Seems like 80 answered is the magic number on the cog test

Hi All,
Has anyone been interviewed or called without the 50 ME in the last 12 months?
I've been out of 121/135 for a couple of years and have all mins except this one. I do have SE currency of at least that though.
Thoughts?

Thanks
