This all started last summer when Bedford put the 10 190's he got from US Air in 2009-2010 up for sale. The rumor in the summer of 2011 was we were going to get them back. This fizzled out by Xmas or early 2012. Then a few weeks ago we start hearing talk of 5 190's coming back. Personally I was thinking here we go again. But then the bid for Nov 2012 which just closed Wed 7/25 at 23:30 est. had and increase of 190 positions. Not the regular 5ish a side to account for flying fluctuations but on the order of 50 positions (25 CA and 25 FO's or there abouts). Now I'm thinking there is no way the 190 gained that much flying in the fall to warrant that increase. So now I'm leaning towards the side of getting 5 190's back but as always in the bizz never count on it until it is on the ramp - or something like that.

from the 2nd quarter results:

In the second quarter, we reduced our mainline fleet by 1 aircraft end the quarter -- to end the quarter with 339 aircraft. For the remainder of 2012, we plan to return 7 737-300 and 7 737-400 aircraft and take delivery of 12 A321 aircraft, with 6 deliveries in each of the third and fourth quarters.

Also in July, we reached an agreement in principle with Republic to reacquire 5 Embraer 190 aircraft, which will be flown at the mainline and used to replace regional aircraft that will be returned or retired in 2013. This aircraft acquisition is subject to, among other things, definitive agreements and final approvals of the parties. We anticipate the first 2 deliveries will go into service in the fourth quarter, with the final 3 expected in early 2013.

We're maintaining our previous ASM guidance. Mainline ASMs are projected to be 74 billion this year, up approximately 2% versus 2011, primarily due to this higher seat count on A321 aircraft, which are replacing 737 aircraft, as well as our higher completion factor in the first half of the year.
Domestic ASMs are expected to be up approximately 2%, while international is up less than 1% year-over-year. Mainline ASMs by quarter should be 19.4 billion in the third and 17.5 billion in the fourth. Express capacity for the year is forecasted to be 14.22 billion ASMs, up approximately 1% from 2011.
For the quarter, passenger load factors remained strong, and record passenger yields resulted in improved operating performance. Total operating revenues for the quarter were a record $3.8 billion, up 7.2% from the same period in 2011 on a 1% increase in total ASMs. Total revenue per available seat mile was a record $0.163, up 6.1% versus the same period last year. Mainline passenger revenues were $2.4 billion, up 7.3%

Is this going to reduce Republic flying? Is there any backwards movement from the lose of there 5 planes?

A 5 plane fleet makes no sense. What happens if Republic loses their other 5 e190s?

I fly a CRJ 200 and while Taxiing in MSP we were given instructions by ground that the 190 or was it a 170 would give way to us. My FO responded in the affirmative and the Republic guy said and I quote "We will give way to the little guy"

Yeah, I would say they are a little full of themselves. I just laughed. Almost as good as a Compass pilot who said, "we are not a regional airline, we are a transitional airline".

There is a story behind that one at least, the management team at CPZ tells the employees that they are not a regional. Its something of an inside joke. My opinion is unless you routinely fly sub 300nm legs you are not a regional. If your routes range from California to Florida and Maine to Montana, thats more of a subcontractor than a regional. Opinion only.

If there is a "express" or "connection" or "connect" or any word of that nature painted next to the mainline name on the aircraft you are flying, then you are working at a regional, no matter how many miles or hours your flights are.

Best statement on here in a long time. I'd fly a Super Cub for 150k and be one happy "mainline" pilot!
