Red,

You're making a fool of yourself again. Pop quiz time;

1. what percentage of AirTran 737 NG came from Boeing ETOPS equipped ?

2. How long from 1 year of Class 2 flying would it take to gain ETOPS Cert. How much longer would it take SWA ?

Take a year to consider the problem and get back to us.

I'll take a shot at this.

1. I don't know-some but not all, I'd reckon.

2. The answer to this one is, that it doesn't matter if it would take longer to gain ETOPS cert for Southwest that it would for Airtran. In case you hadn't heard, Airtran is going away, and all the Airtran 737 NGs (ETOPS or not) will be Southwest 737s by 2014. It wouldn't be worth spending the money to certify Airtran for such a short period of time. Not to be a flame, but surely that makes sense to you. Unless you're advocating keeping Airtran separate for an extended period, and that doesn't seem to be in anyone's best interest.

I commented mainly on your first loss, which was significant. Your darling airline which kicked everyone's rear end during the last decade after 9-11 was finally rid of the beneficial hedges and was showing that every airline was vulnerable. That was my point bubba. Go enjoy MAF while you're at it.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Crap...again. You have commented numerous times on the exact same situation at Southwest (although not as big of a hedge devaluation as your recent one). Numerous times I pointed out the difference, and you ignored it and continued to spout stupid crap like "Southwest lost money! Southwest lost money!" interspersed with your even stupider comments about us flying to certain Texas cities. I suppose you were trying to vary your insults so it wouldn't seem as inane.

Anyway, now that Delta is in the same position, suddenly you're the expert on asset management and GAAP procedures. It just seems a little funny, not to mention grossly out of place, to hear actually true statements coming out of your mouth. Are you sure someone's not just feeding you these lines?

I believe I was pointing out that your airline FINALLY appeared normal, like the rest of us, vulnerable to high oil. For years your airline enjoyed hedges that benefited you, not hurt you, until that quarter. That was my point. And since then I have brushed up a bit on GAAP procedures. Maybe you should brief Red and Whataburger on the same. Have a great one!

Bubba,

You're certainly prolific. I like your little essays.. Do they take you long ?

The Reservation systems have been around for a long time. You spent years trying to re-invent one. When that failed you bought one. You could have been international flying using the 162 nm exemption for years at this point. While doing the Class 2 Nav training at the same time. 'Reds' fuel argument is ridiculous from the largest domestic operation in the world, still not doing single engine taxi. Hundreds of millions of dollars burned.

You brought up some assumed differences between us - You flew a tanker around, then got hired at SWA. At a time when it didn't take a rocket scientist. Not really a shining record of excellence. A little average perhaps, and certainly nothing to gloat about on FI.

Carry on.

Dicko,

Do you think we bought Airtran for their reservation system? The truth is that Navitaire pretty much sucks. It's a notch above what Southwest has now, but it's not going to be useable moving forward.

There are two players in this area...Amadeus and Sabre. Southwest is working with both NOW. Yes, it should have been done 5 years ago, but that's water under the bridge.

Amadeus is the better system overall for many reasons. I imagine that they will be chosen in the end for flexiblity and ease of use. Both the SW and AAI antiquated systems will be left at the roadside. It's the future.

And for your assumption that Airtran could be doing Hawaii flights now, well that's complete BS and you know it. But thanks for trying to sling mud at your new employer.

Well, this latest diatribe has absolutely nothing to do with what you quoted from me above.

Anyway, didn't fly a tanker around, but I did do a lot of other stuff before I got to Southwest. The "assumed" differences between you and I are fairly obvious: I'm happy and like what I do and who I work for, and you obviously don't. By the way, I'm not gloating, and I never said it did take a rocket scientist to get hired here ever--just a qualified guy (there's lots out there), and the kind of personality they like in the interview. This is the only airline I wanted to work for. Good for me. Not so much for you.

It's obvious that there's lots you don't like about Southwest, and lots you think we should do differently (although a lot of what you complained about is wrong). And I'm sorry your career hasn't been what you want, and has left you somewhat bitter. However, if you have a real suggestion to improve the way things are done, there ARE ways to submit it to the company. Knock yourself out; who knows, you might even get credit for it. On the other hand, if all you want to do is bitch about Southwest with crap and half-truths, then I suppose Flight Info is the appropriate place to do that. Just don't take offense when people who like it here, and know better, take you to task.

Carry on yourself, and I certainly hope your life gets better.

Nuff said. Let wave & red continue their jealous obsession with our Air Line :p)

It's not jealousy-
It's frustration that the best legacy out there with the most unified and influential pilot union keeps selling out and FAILS to provide any leadership on outsourcing.
Like a cat playing with a laser, you guys jump at any raise and practically give scope away.

Virgin America and Allegiant have nothing on DALPA for selling out.

But please notice- I don't trash your airline. I trash your pilots disconnect on scope - you do a disservice to the DALPA pilots that came before you.
Sorry you don't like it and have to bring up my name in a thread I'm not participating in. But since you did, I'll assume you want to talk about scope and how you sold out our profession again.
